Best Fishfinder for ~$500 or Less?

My little Garmin has served me well, but I left it on the console to the point of being waterlogged beyond repair. So, color or B/W? Best brand these days (I've had Garmin for years but open).
20' boat, inshore and some rig and wreck fishing. Now that Yellowfin has been caught potlicking my spot, I'll need a new place or 2. Occasional run to Venice offshore, but generally WD/ST area up to about 150-170' of depth.

You just need a ff? Not a combo?

I have a Garmin 76CS GPS with a dash bracket, so FF only is fine, unless a combo unit is in the same price range

You can get a lowrance elite 5 for $349 on clearance. If you've got room you might could get the new 7" hdi ff only for $500. I think lowrance is putting out a damn fine product these days that is really simple to use.

I'll look at those. I noticed when I first started looking that Lowrance is the first to come out with touchscreen units-wonder how those will hold up on an open console in saltwater?

I just bought a Lowrance elite 5 DSI chart plotter/fish finder. On Ebay I got it with the transducer for $360 shipped. it's not the big 7" screen but it's perfect for my needs

If I go combo, I need to stick with Garmin so I can use all my maps.
