I just read he was the 25th pick in the draft. Was it because of signing bonus issues? Or was he just not highly touted? What a steal

Glad my astros took jiovani mier 4 picks ahead of trout!

because he's from NJ and was strongly committed to East Carolina

I'm joking about the 2nd part

That is what I read. Just not a ton of exposure and concerns about his level of competition. I'm happy the Angels had a personal connection with a scout friend of his father's or something along those lines. I read a good article about his draft stock a while back. No clue in what mag or what site though.

So you mean it in the sense that new jersey doesn't have the baseball pedigree of texas?

That's insane, what a total steal at 25, he would've been a steal at #3

Because scouting isn't an exact science. He was still drafted in the first round as a high school player... so it's not like he wasn't highly touted either.

He was supposedly the top player overall on the Yankees board. They had the 26th pick.

Kids can play baseball year round in states like Texas, Florida, California, etc. Can't do it in Jersey due to the weather. That's a big factor concerning exposure.

The Angels need to stop fricking around and sign him to a big deal.

Millville and all Cumberland county plays good ball. I was there a few weeks ago and they have Mike Trout signs all over the place downtown. Place is 45 miles south east of Philly and that area is nothing but an extension of the Delmarva.

Yep!

Here is the story I mentioned earlier...or at least I think this is it.

How Angels' Trout Became the Perfect Catch

Also, here is a story about how the Angels fired the scout, Eddie Bane, after 6+ years as scouting director. He now works for Detroit.

Angels' firing of scout Bane looks bad with success of Trout, Weaver, Trumbo

Jered Weaver fell to the Angels with the 12th pick just because teams didn't want to deal with Scott Boras.

Way too early to tell that in pro baseball

There could be future hall of famers in those first 24 picks still in the minors.
