Why do Many Companies not print Expiration Dates on their Products?

A lot of products have codes, which are usually a mix of letters and numbers. Sometimes that's the manufacture date, and sometimes it's the expiration date, but the average consumer cannot decipher these codes.

My guess is that these companies don't want retailers to take their product off the shelves.

I just called Monster to decipher the code on one of their drinks. They told me that their drinks never expire!

How is that possible?

Keep it a mystery to the consumers.

I think you have to read the code thru the front of an Affliction shirt to de-code it.

Because they're full of un-natural shite. I recently got off Monster drinks and I feel light years better than I did when I drank them.

Saying their drinks never expire is incorrect. Most shelf stable food items have a 2 year shelf life from date of manufacture. Companies aren't required to put expiration dates as long as they have date of manufacture.

If you use an expiration date, you must have stability data to prove it is good at least past that date. You must do it before you start using the date. You must have stress testing and then real time data utilizing a stability chamber with controlled temperature and humidity. You must keep records that will stand up in court, because to have printed a guarantee that the product will remain good.

Many (but not all) companies have a pull by date agreement with their customers.

I think most soft drinks have about a six month shelf life. I am almost certain that is the date if artificial sweeteners are used as they tend to go bitter or off taste after that long.

Product stability is a big deal and lots of companies avoid it if they can.

Manufactured February 12, 2013.. Most products like that have a 1 year shelf life

B is the month it was produced. It could be February, but if they start their manufacturing cycle in June, then B would be July. The 12 could also be 2012 and 13 be the day.

So it could also have been manufactured on July 13 2012

Thank you for the reply.

What about companies that only print manufacture dates?

This is my point. The codes are ambiguous to the average consumer.
