I have tweeted about this all morning… Trey Burke is a nice player… that said there isn’t a lot of logic behind the hype. People love him because he plays hard and he’s a known name on a team that was solid this year — in the NBA he is a touch slow, isn’t a great a shooter and is small. I had a team at the Combine compare him to DJ Augustin, I had another say he wouldn’t start over Darren Collison.

Some one is going to draft Burke, because of what they “feel” about him, but I don’t think Orlando is that team, although they have the situation in which they can take a chance if they want to. I just don’t think that is where they are going to go.

Now I'm sure if you wanted to find positive comments about Burke from the combine you could have the exact opposite response posted, but I just have this feeling that fans like Burke a lot more than teams do.

Also a few Pelicans specific responses from his chat.

quote:

Fred: On Draft night, wich player is the best fit for the Pelicans?

Steve Kyler: Tell me who goes 1 through 5 and then I can give you some names.

This draft will be MASSIVELY unpredictable because there are huge question marks at the top and virtually every player ranked 10 to 40 is interchangeable.

quote:

devonte wilson: how much money will brandon jennings command if he doesnt re-sign with the bucks?

Steve Kyler: He is not re-signing with the Bucks.

They’ll give him a qualifying offer to restrict him and then they will either match or not match what Jennings fetches in free agency. I think Milwaukee matches anything under $13 million per year… I think anything over $13 million per is going to make them seriously consider passing.

So who goes north $13 million for Jennings is the question? Not sure we know who that is. I think Dallas will consider it and I wouldn’t rule New Orleans out of the mix either, especially if they can get Milwaukee to do a sign and trade.

quote:

Chris_AussiePELICAN: 1. Are u hearing anything about Eric Gordon and possibly been traded this summer?

2.Starting PG for the Pelicans next season? Dont think they will draft Trey Burke, I think the will take a run at Brandon Jennings though I would rather Tyreke Evans.

Steve Kyler: Nothing credible. EG’s knees and ankles are a problem. I just don’t see anyone taking Eric for anything of value. NOLA would have to take back luggage in a deal.

I agree they will look at Jennings. I think Burke could be there and could be an option for a team looking to build excitement. As for Evans. You are going to have to overpay to get him and I am not sure he makes the Pelicans better.

So should we be trying to come up with sign and trade deals for Jennings? With that said, I don't want to spend 13 mil for Brandon Jennings.

If we're going to overpay for an RFA, I'd rather it be Pekovic than Jennings.

Yeah earlier on last season I was all about trying to get Jennings. But...no thanks.

And certainly not at that money. He's just not as good as he thinks he is.

I'd rather draft a guy or run with Vasquez/Rivers and focus elsewhere, either on a wing or center.

We can't get both unless we are sending back some serious salary.

Jennings at 13 mill and Pekovic at 12-14 mill.

We have to have cap space to make a tender offer.

Given the payroll we already have, team options we could exercise, and the likely cap number for next year, we can only offer around $15-20m TOTAL for FAs.

If it would take at least $12-13m to get either of these guys, we only have enough cap space to get one or the other unless we start dumping players and / or turning down options like Lopez.

If we were to overpay two player I hope it's Pek and Derozan. Then we draft a PG like Schroeder.

How are we getting Derozan in your scenario where we still have our pick?

idk I thought he was a RFA or something. I saw a lot of talk on here about him a few days ago. Guess I didn't read it well enough, but since You're asking me what my scenario would be I'd say we trade EG, Gravy, and Lopez for Derozan, shitty player, and cash. this is if we sign Pek. I doubt Toronto would do that anyways

Lost all credibility with that last statement. Somehow 13mil for Jennings is ok but anything in that area for Evans isn't? Evans upside is markedly higher than Jennings and I'd argue that he's the better player already anyways.

Jennings is overrated on this board, IMO.

How is Evans upside higher? His numbers have dropped every year. FWIW Jennings was ranked #61 and Evans #69 by ESPN last year.
