Despite having only a slim chance of landing the No. 1 overall pick for the second consecutive year, New Orleans Pelicans Coach Monty Williams is not going to bring along any good luck items when he heads to New York next Tuesday to represent the franchise on stage at the NBA draft lottery.

``I don’t believe in superstition,’’ Williams said. ``If I did, I would had came up with Microsoft. It’s a nice event, and getting the No. 1 pick is even better.’’

Williams said last year they aimed to land the best available players in the draft, which included selecting guard Austin Rivers with the 10th overall pick in this first round. But they are going to take a different approach this time around.

``We’re at a point now where we go by need and we’re trying to fulfill those needs as opposed to just taking best talent,’’ Williams said. ``Now if the need is gone, then you take the best player. I think it’s a little different than last year. Anthony was the consensus No. 1, so that was an easy one.’’
