Bitcoin buzz stays high --- even after bubble

LINK
quote:

Bitcoin lost more than half its value last month but there’s more interest in the cyber-currency than ever. While Bitcoin stories used to be restricted to tech and science sites, they’re now a fixture of the financial press and even consumer news sites. Last week, for instance, brought a fresh spate of news that suggest more people are treating Bitcoin as a serious form of money rather than a science fiction experiment.

Philosoraptor question for you:

If bitcoin enabled my trip to Maui, did I not actually go to Maui since according to many posters here bitcoin isn't real???

Under your assumption, bitcoin itself did not enable your trip. Your ability to not be the last one holding the beanie baby did.

Bitcoin is a collectible. It has no intrinsic value. Today somebody may pay you $100....tomorrow you won't be able to give them away. You might as well be trading stamps.

Trade away and good luck! Just get the hell out asap when the dam starts to break.

If your airlines, hotelier and any restaurants accepted bitcoin as their method of payment, I'll have to concede that, yes, that is indeed a game changer.

Otherwise, it's more accurate to say that your speculation in bitcoin allowed you to cash out enough dollars to fund your trip.

So, ironically, you're not much of a believer right now, either. Otherwise, you wouldn't be so cavalier about parting with your coins.

False dichotomy.

Not really. Bitcoin is a speculative investment, not a currency despite the fact that some (mostly gray) operations accept as a currency.

He didn't pay for his trip with bitcoin. He paid for it with dollars.

How do you know?

Like I said, what you posted was a false dichotomy. He could've used a proxy service.

If you think his airline or hotel got paid in bitcoins, there's really no reason to continue this.

He traded his bitcoins (somehow, someway) into dollars and that's what all of these people were paid.

The Hyatt didn't get 4.2 bitcoins credited to their account. Simple. The End.

And, please keep in mind, that I even concede that at some point in the future (after surmounting a ton of hurdles) that bitcoin or some other alternate currency could possibly even go (relatively) mainstream. But this borderline evangelical insistence that you have that it's the case right now is just flat out wrong.

Which means he didn't pay in bitcoin. And I'm pretty sure I already destroyed the validity of your proxy services.

Explain how Bitcoin enabled your trip to Maui. I'd be willing to bet there were some Dutch people who were enabled to make substantial purchases by tulips. How are you any different than them?
