For those that have seen the show the last two nights, what do you make of the argument between Pinsky and Eiglarsh?

For those that haven't seen the show, there has been a spirited debate between Dr. Drew Pinsky and attorney Mark Eiglarsh over the veracity of Arias' claim that she would rather die than serve a life sentence.

Here's a video of Arias stating that she would prefer death.

quote:

I believe death is the ultimate freedom, so I'd rather just have my freedom as soon as I can get it.

Eiglarsh's position is that Arias is a good actress that is faking a psychosis. He thinks that Dr. Drew is naive to Arias' manipulation.

Pinsky's position is that Arias is truly psychotic. Otherwise, she wouldn't be held at the Lower Buckeye Jail's psychiatric ward. Dr. Drew says that the licensed professionals at the psych ward are impervious to manipulation.

Here's a short clip of the beginning of the argument from Thursday's show.

IMO, Dr. Drew has too much faith in his professional colleagues.

They could be wrong sure, but I'd still trust them more than this random attorney watching the trial on TV.

/I didn't watch or read any trial coverage

I see where you're coming from.

My last statement was more of a general point to Pinsky's belief in the licensed professionals. I wasn't agreeing or disagreeing with the attorney.

IMO, it's an epistemological issue that psychologists/psychiatrists, at times, aren't willing to concede to.

quote:

Mark, how do you get in a psych ward without a psychiatric problem, dammit. You have to have a psychiatric problem, they can't admit them otherwise.

A general statement from Dr. Drew that I disagree with.

With regard to Arias specifically, I don't know. Most say it's a reverse psychology tactic. Pinsky says she's a proven borderline that is using projective identification to project her murderous urges onto others (in this instance, the state).

Why?

Can you relate to her statement about death being the ultimate freedom?

I am really curious what she means by that. I'd like to hear her explain that in greater detail.

And Pinsky is an internist, not a psychiatrist. I'd take his pronouncements with a grain of salt.

Which part of this are you applying the Costanza quote to?

She believes her own lies.

Maybe some of them, but not all of them. She's been caught in multiple lies that she's admitted to throughout the trial.
