I am in the market for a new weed trimmer. I want to spend about $200 and I am looking for something that works well and won't make my arm numb after just a few minutes of use.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Spend a few hundred and get a Stihl kombi tool. You get a head, blower, trimmer and edger. Well worth the money

if it's orange, it's probably good lol.

However, Stihl / husqvarna / echo / shindowa are all good.

But i got a damn 80 dollar Troy bilt and that damn thing has been FIRE for me for 2 seasons so far, going into 3rd season.

in my experience i have always been disapointed in the "do all" setups with the different attachments. I prefere to get a tool specifically designed for the job I am doing.

Look at a Tanaka straight shaft trimmer. I just bought this one

and am very happy with it.

My Dad has an older Tanaka brush cutter that has given him no issues in 6+ years.

ETA: I chose Tenaka over Husqvarna based on reviews (both good), price (Tanaka about $100 cheaper) and warrenty (Husq-2 yr, Tanaka -7 Yr)

Go get an Echo from Home Depot. Had a Ryobi that used to drive me crazy. This trimmer has easily added another 2 years onto my life.

Shindawas are expensive and too much for most homeowners. They have bigger engines and are heavier.

I have a 15yr old Echo that is still as strong as the day it was bought

Say what you will, but the Tanaka's are spoken of highly in the pro lawn guy forums and all consumer review sites.

Of course, Stihl, redmax, Shindaiwa, etc. are as well.

been seeing commercials now for Echo's under $200. Not bad.
I like my 4 stroke Troybilt plenty fine. She's 6 years old now and still kicking.

Echo has a 5 year warranty, and is sold by real outdoor equipment companies who will service the equipment.

I've had Ryobi commercial grade (no longer available) and Husky. I had the combo with about 6 attachments (thus the reason for buying Husky - it accepted all the attachments I had).

The combo system is the way to go IF you are doing work around the house with an occasional trip to the camp for some serious work.

And don't bother with tiller attachment.

Bottom line - echo, husky, stihl, red max and you'll be fine. Non-ethanol gas only.

This is what I have been leaning toward but I wanted to check with you guys.
The Echo is not something I was thinking about but I will give it a look also.
