First off, it was a full house with some people being turned away...the folks from the Alumni Association sold a bunch of LSU gear last night...

Coaches Miles, Jones, and Caldwell were there as well as MajGen Richard from TAF. Gordy Rush was the MC and did the interviews with the coaches...

Personally, I found the format too canned for my liking (although with a bunch of LSU fans in the audience, opening up the floor for questions could be dangerous)...

Anyone else on the board who was there last night?

Nothing of world shaking importance...I can see why the coaches might not like to do these things...

The Jackson chapter is apparently in shambles. Heath moved to Tulsa and I haven't heard a peep from the Association. I requested some information on the crawfish boil on the website, but no one responded to that.

Who did you send an email to? When Heath left, I was under the impression he left it in the hands of someone else. I have not been in touch with anyone from Jackson.

Please email me at Jasonr@lsualumni.org and we can discuss further.

from my observations of what's going on in Jackson, I totally agree with you...there is a major split between TAF and the Alumni Association that is apparently personalty driven and there seems to be very little mixing between the groups other than at a really big function like last night

First of all, the split has to do with the fact that the TAF group is being run as a Baptist Sunday School group, resulting in the median age being about 65, and that may be low. ABSOLUTELY NO ALCOHOL ALLOWED at any functions per Bill Hulsey. They want to keep things "family friendly." Damn Catholics, Presbyterians, and Jews, all anti-family.Second, did anyone else there catch the comment by Les,while talking about TAF and all they do, that he is looking forward to playing in front of 103,000 people in Tiger Stadium, or did I misunderstand. It looked like he turned around and nodded to The General after he made it.

per Bill Hulsey

and there is your problem, TAF and Alumni groups are both well run, but the elephant in the room is right here...

No doubt, you guys hit the nail on the head. Bill Hulsey has done more to drive away dedicated LSU alumni due to his contol issues and constant need to be the "Man". I once appeared in the lounge area of the Stadium Club and he absolutely freaked out wanting to know how I got tickets to get in. His obsession with control is borders hysteria. As long as he is running this show, many of us won't attend.

Bill is a total control freak who makes the soup Nazi from Seinfeld look laid back...and he actually does give a shite about how you got into the stadium club...

it's very well known to anyone who has been around the Jackson area for a while that he is the elephant in the room...

You, sir, are absolutely right. Not only is he not a big donor, he resents having to send ANY money to TAF and bad mouths Richard every chance he gets. When I first joined his club, I asked if this was all I needed to do to join TAF and he said "we are a TAF sanctioned club and you are now a member of TAF." I didn't know better at the time. Needless to say, TAF didn't know I existed. He doles out favors (access to great tickets, club seating, signed balls, etc) to those who help him to keep their loyalty to him.

the earlier poster is totally correct about the average age of the TAF group being over 65 (hell, I'm 61 and bring the average age down considerably)...

I know of no one (literally) in TAF, the AD, coaches etc. who like having this guy around or feel anything but annoyance (at least) towards him. He was one of the 1st TAF presidents way back when it started and to his credit he is a big fan and did do some work early on (way before TAF was anywhere near where it is now), but his treatment of peole he thinks are below him (99% of anyone) is unreal. I have NO idea what the issue at the stadium club was above, but would bet Bill did not like the "look" of the person and thought he did not "deserve" to be there. Try and find someone to say something good about the guy, doubt you will have much luck...too bad

not that I know of....during football season, there is the Monday night TAF meeting where someone from sports information calls in...however, I have to warn you that the average age is around 65
