I know, I wouldn't be able to swing it this year(too bad). But at some point in the near future I would love to go with my Step-Dad(big UVA fan), and was wondering how much I would prolly need to save up. He would not need a plane ticket as he has passes on Delta(Mom is an employee), I would likely fly, but could drive and stop in either Memphis or Fort Worth.
What would be a good starting point for one week? 2 weeks?
TIA

If you have to ask, you can't afford it.

J/K There are too many variables here. What kind of hotel do you want? Hell, you could pack a tent and get off really cheap. Are you buying tickets ahead of time or are you willing to risk it and wait until a few teams lose?

Spent 10 days(8 in omaha) in 2009. Probably around $1500-2k with everything considered. We drove from BR. Hotel will be your biggest expense. And we ate out all the time and played golf etc. it can be done for cheaper than what ive stated but you'll prob need to bunk up to split hotel cost. Try council bluffs, ia for hotel. Good luck.

Depends on how much you can drink at Barrett's (the LSU fan bar) I spent $2000 In 5 days of travel and stay. Flew on Frontier out of Dallas.

I only spent a few hundred for just the championship series. Drove up in one day (about 16 hours), got a cheap hotel ($50/night), split it with my brother for 4 nights, and ate cheap. Tickets were about $10 per game.

$2,500-$3,000 if you fly & stay the entire duration of the CWS.

I would be more than happy staying at a La Quinta type motel. Don't need the Hyatt, but prefer not to be in a roach motel. We would likely plan the trip early. No later than early in the season. I would like to do it a year, that LSU and UVA have a good chance to make it(wish I could afford it this year, without selling stock).
We can each drink a decent bit, he luckily is happy with cheap vodka. I hopefully can stick to mostly Bud, before having to switch to Seagrams 7.

It all depends upon how long you want to stay and how you want to get there. I've been 4 times and driven each time (about 10 - 11 hours from Waco to Omaha). The first 3 times, I went for the first 4 days of the tournament and saw each of the 8 teams play twice. It was really fun and we saw a lot of baseball. I got my hotel room when I got to Omaha, arrived early on Friday morning left late on Monday afternoon. The format was different than it is now. After those first 3 trips, I decided I wasn't going back unless LSU got into the championship games (2 out of 3), so I went in 2009 when we played Texas. Once I found out that LSU was in it (the Friday night before), we made our plans and left on Sunday and drove to Topeka Kansas, about 2 hours south of Omaha and spent Sunday night, about $60 for a budget hotel. We drove into Omaha on Monday morning. I bought tickets for the first 2 games online when they went on sale after LSU got in and the face value was about $25 per ticket (we needed 3 tickets). We stayed at the Country Inn & Suites in Carter Lake, Iowa (just a mile from the new stadium and downtown Omaha, but farther from Rosenblatt back then). I think I paid about $80 per night per room for the low-budget suite type hotel. That hotel runs about $160 per night now, but very convenient. We spent Monday and Tuesday night so that we could stay for Game 3 on Wednesday. In 2009, 3 nights of lodging probably cost about $300, with tax. Tickets for 3 people cost $75 per game x 3 = $225. Gas was probably about $300 total for 3 people. We did eat well (great steak and other restaurants in downtown Omaha). I probably spent $300-$400 on food for 3 people for 3 days. We also went to the world-class Omaha zoo (our daughter, now an LSU freshman, was 15 then and wanted to go to the zoo). Total cost was about $1,200 or about $400 per person with food, travel, lodging, tickets, entertainment, etc. If we had flown, with last minute airfare and having to pay for a rental car, just our travel costs would have been probably $1,500 for flight and rental car, but you could subtract the gas. All in all, well worth the trip. We obviously don't mind driving (we drive to every LSU home football game and that is 925 miles R/T each weekend from Waco to BR). The advantage of driving is that we can wait until the last minute to see if LSU gets in the championship game. No risk for deposits, etc. If they make it this year, I will be there. Most fun sporting event ever and I've been to 2 BCS football championship games, Cotton Bowls, NCAA Final Fours, Masters, etc.

$500 if you take a Greyhound ( $180 round trip). Share a room with someone in Omaha ( $200 for 2 weeks, you need to prepare for this in advance), eat instant noodles every day ( 24 packs at Walmart for $14.99, 2 cases for 30 bucks), drink water ( buy 2 cases for $10), plus tickets for all games. That's around $500. Good luck and enjoy the trip.

I may try and think of making the championship this year if it is LSU and UVA, since that would obviously be a lot less money out of pocket, but I would like to do the full 2 weeks with him. I think it would be a great trip we would both love. He is more of a MLB fan, and me college. We enjoyed watching some of the 09 CWS series together when I happened to be back in VA for a week of it. The UVA-Arky game made us both sick though.

That's good. There is no Hyatt Regency in Omaha.

Out of the way ... it would be Dallas anyways and that is the longer way to be honest.

I figured Fort Worth was out of the way, but I have a place to stay there since my Uncle is there. I assume Memphis would be a bit out of the way too, but I never mind some great BBQ

That's another good question. I know really nothing about Omaha. If I'm lucky maybe the Giants or Nats have a series in either St. Louis or KC

Most of them spend their "spare" time trying to sober up.
