I got this weird message on my profile that asked me "Alter?...click here to remove this message." What is alter? Is it like spam?

:sigh: I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt be nice and answer your question. It means they think you might have another ("alter"-native) account, usually one that was banned, and are now posting under the new name "Peeta2".
Are you douching up threads with comments similar to another poster? See, like skully, he's being pretty obvious that he's an alter.
Are you posting from somewhere that has another registered poster? Sometimes they check IP addresses for suspected alters.

Gotcha! Thanks.
Because people who come to the TD Political Talk board who have never lurked are apt to post 300 times in one month.
It would be hard to lurk for any period of time without encountering a discussion/allegation of 'alter.'
And if you just show up as a real 'newbie' and begin engaging everyone with the same old memes as others have done, it does raise suspicion.
