I wish I was kidding. This guy talked like a vampire as he read the textbook aloud for an hour. Started the semester with 45 students and I counted 11 at the final.

Yeah, it was a 10yr span for me. Relearning all of that was a huge PITA. Had to teach myself Trig, Geometry, and Algebra shite while in Calculus

I had to go back and take a Chemistry that I got a D in, and found that I did better when I didn't go to class at all

Oh yeah, I still suck at drawing.. Solid works was easy to pick up on, but the sketching part of 1020 was a bitch

How far along in IE are you?

1020 was my favorite class ever I college I'm actually planning on getting my SolidWorks certfication this summer just for the heck of it

I have a year and a half to go after this semester. I'll be graduating in 4.5 years with a business minor and an IE degree under my belt

As far as preparing yourself for the real world I think it is the students job to seek out internships that will allow you the opportunity to learn how to apply the theoretical knowledge you have gained in school. My first degree was in CM from LSU and there is no fricking way they would be able to cram 1/8 of the job specific knowledge needed into a curriculum.

Because UNO is special ed engineering, from my professional experience. They have about a 50% FE pass rate in ME.

I looked into getting Solid works and Autocad certs a while back, but it was like a month or two of classes every weekend so I chose not to. Ain't nobody got time for dat. You planning on designing plants or something?

The forestry curriculum was exactly geared towards working in the real world. Granted some the job stuff was tougher for book smart people, we had a good base to work any job. That was directly due to the amount of labs and field work we did. Nothing can beat hamds-on stuff

What about latech? Do they have a poor culture/bad fe exam pass rate? Perusing the me department faculty website and it's pretty obvious they have MANY more english as their first language professors than lsu.

Of course, but my point was that teachers tend to bypass the theoretical understanding part in favor of heavy calculation. I'm in good shape to make a B in thermo 2 but I'm only at that point because I essentially memorized the end of chapter problems for each test. I have no idea why fugacity in raoult's law describes the non-ideal behavior of a gas, but by damn I can calculate it for you.

That's exactly my problem. I want to understand the concepts, and there is so much homework and shit, that the teachers just rely on you to teach yourself. Understanding what I am doing is more important than being able to do it

Teaching my 1+1 in class and expecting me to go home and do integration is not the way I like to do things. I get too bogged down on the little details

I fricking hate learning ideal models. I am thick headed so when I am learning them I sit there and try to figure how it would be applied to a real world situation and I almost lose my god damn mind

Both of you are preaching to the choir, I was always the kid that took things apart and asked why. Engineering as a profession is great for that, but professors all too often can't resist the temptation to strip a subject down to a bare bones calculator workout because that's way easier to grade.

Any of you LSU MEs want to tell me if you guys have to take a Systems Dynamics and Controls class Junior year?

At Auburn that is the pinnacle of awful and the last big hurdle to getting the degree.

System dynamics is jr year and controls in senior year.

Controls isn't that bad, system dynamics is straight from the college of satan

It's like they know that they are going to have a continued stock of kids coming in, so it doesn't matter what they do. Doesn't matter how they teach, or who gets what out of it.

I think they start out with 1000 or so ME students, and IIRC, like 75 a year graduate.

That's neither here nor there today because finals have started

Gotcha. We just lump it into one class that you take JR year Spring semester. Once you are done we just have technical electives that allow you to take engineering classes that focus on what you want to do and then you have to do a senior design project both semesters of senior year where you work with a company to solve some problems their engineers don't have time for.

System Dynamics and Controls and Thermodynamics I are pretty renowned for being the two big classes that fail people in droves here. Freshman year Engineering Physics get a lot of the people with no business being in engineering but those classes are absolute terrible experiences for anyone, no matter how much you love engineering or how smart you are.

Here's your advice, why the frick are you trying to calculate the bare minimum you need to pass instead of just studying right now so you get a good grade and not have to worry about it?

The best engineer is a lazy engineer.

Depending on who you have, Statics and Dynamics is also a highly failed class. Good ole Madsen...

What are the weed out ChE courses? How is 2171, and do the classes get progressively harder
