I used to know of an interactive map website similiar to SONRIS that you could pull coordinates, distances, driections, headings, and areas from interactively. I forgot to transfer my bookmarks to my new computer though.

I know there are a few GIS guys on here that have to know what site I am talking about. And yes I saw the other thread talking about imagery but thats not what I am looking for.

I can't get the area function to work on the SONRIS. does this function even work on that site?

Yes, the area function on sonris works. Sometimes sonris is qualitatively genuinely retarded. If you don't have google earth pro, you can measure area pretty accurately on the NRCS web soil survey if you know how to navigated it.

Not sure what you're working on, but you can get arseloads of KmL overlays for google earth. Sections, townships, watersheds, flood zones, soil surveys, NWI maps, lots of useful ones.
