Anyone here used the Kaplan study system while preparing for the Series 7???

I have a few weeks left until the exam....Been studying since early April....Took the 4 day class a few weeks ago...

Thought I was making good progress, but a few of the comprehensive online tests have been quite difficult...And I'm starting to get a little worried that I am not retaining the info...

Anyone have any experience with using Kaplan or study tips for the 7???

Know options and municipals backwards and forewards. Have a pretty good idea of the other stuff.

If you read through the Kaplan book, do the problems at the end of each section, and do the online problems you should be fine. The Series 7 isn't that bad.

Yeah. It's all new to me. I've been the insurance industry for years, P&C, and NO finance experience.

When going unit by unit, I feel pretty good about it, but when I do a comprehensive online test, they seem to be really damn difficult. Maybe I am just psyching myself out.

It depends on the test for Kaplan. For the 7 and 66, the Kaplan tests are harder. For the CFA, they're really about equal in my experience.

Not true....it's a diffiult test...most in the industry will tell you one of, if not THE toughest they've ever taken. Take it seriously.

Just had to throw the CFA out there, didn't ya Benny.

FIFY

I kid.

EDIT: And for what it's worth, the Series 7 is really not that difficult. Like he said... options & munis, and I'd also get pretty comfortable with the exchange markets. Every test is different, and each one usually has a concentration of one of the chapters. (Mine had a good bit of annuity questions)

Absolutely take it seriously, but it is definitely not the hardest test in the industry. The Series 66, Series 3, and even the CFA are all harder than the Series 7.

Actually studying for the CFA 2 now, got a long way to go to get those 3 letters.

Passed all 3 of the CMT for fun but I haven't applied for membership status yet so I don't have those letters either. Guess I'm just lazy.

I've only taken the 6, 7 and 66.

I thought the 7 was by far the hardest...harder than the 66.

It wasn't that the content was confusing...it was just so much info that was fair game on the test.

Either way....it doesn't matter if you get a 70 or a 90....just pass. My boss asked me what I got when I passed mine (10 years or so ago) and I said "81" with a dissapointed look (I had done much better on the simulated tests)...he made me feel much better when he "No, you got a One Hundred and One! Doesn't matter...you passed!"

Passing score is a 72 now, if I'm not mistaken.

I hated the 66 with every fiber of my being.

I had a similar story, most of my managers are very by the book and said "good job" but the ones that are laid back asked what I got. When I said an 85 they said "You studied way too hard, way to waste your time kid".

i took the 7 a few weeks ago, my firm provided me the STC study material. Like the other guys said, know your options, munis, for sure. i had more margin, annuity, and packaged product questions than i expected.
everyone i spoke to said whatever you make on practice exam expect 10 percent less on real test and they were pretty accurate, ended up making 80 on it.

now im studying the 66, its more painful than watching a les miles lsu offense.

Ah. My firm used it as well. Not too many do. But hell... I passed with an 81/88 series 7 and 66 respectively.

yea i really like STC especially the practice tests, even though for the 7 i may have taken 1500 practice questions which could burn you out quickly but it had me prepared for sure. im studying the 66 now and making like 95s on my practice exams
