The question is what is more important, natural talent or coaching and developement?

Both, a very talented guy under terrible coaches could go unnoticed.

A guy with mediocre talent could show out with the right coaches.

They are both absolutely vital.

quote:

Guys that go high from smaller programs like Fisher usually are guys that fall thru the cracks or become late bloomers, something like that. But it does show that talent comes thru, even at lesser or losing programs.

It's guy who generally are 1 of 2 things...

1. Academics, generally smaller schools on the mid-major, DIAA or DII level can get kids in that bigger schools simply cannot
2. This is generally more likely, big time coaches dont see the talent level translating due to a number of reasons (not fast enough, not big enough, not athletic enough, etc). But they do evaluate the guy.

Very, very rare these days a guy goes completely unnoticed throughout the entire recruiting process and ends up at a small school. This is something that could happen a lot easier decades ago without the connections, support staff and technology coaches have at their disposal nowadays. Some guys amy take longer to recognize in the process, but it's really tough for a guy to "look" talented and go completely unnoticed.

quote:

What does that matter?

Serious? It matters a lot in recruiting. We can say "we just sent 9 kids to the NFL through the draft" and "we're among the very top of colleges with NFL players". A&M has to sell "we can become a LSU, Bama (etc...) as far as success in sending kids to the NFL"

Does it occur to anyone else that both 504 and gator have sources and are being completely honest? Ones source might be better than the other, or the kid might be back and forth. Lets not bash anyone.

Gator: Congrats to your son. I have no credibility or special accolades to warrant some, but I just want to let you know I think your son made a great decision(not just because I a huge LSU fan). I really believe the offense will show huge strides with Cam as the offensive coordinator. His offense is very TE and RB friendly, and both Jacory and DeSean will flourish in this offense.

504: We appreciate the info updates as always.

As with everything in life, recruiting is very fluid. I do think this year, more than any years past, the LA boys do not seem on the same page. The north LA guys could honestly go either way, and the nola guys are giving other schools pretty hard looks.

We dont have that Jeryl Brazil type this year. Hardeman is as close as it comes, but he has more of a handle on the TX boys. I really hope a LA kid can come in and work hard as a recruiter to help tip the scales.

I really do feel this year a lot of guys are more on the fence; however, I am not concerned yet. The recruiting process is a long one, and this year with all the top end talent there is much more pressure. All I know is that Frank will really earn his paycheck this year, not that he usually doesnt and then some

Did yall miss this part?
quote: At last week’s regional meet, Noil was wearing a pair of purple LSU socks
quote: Actually, LSU isn’t even in Noil’s top three right now — that’s Southern California, Florida and Texas A&M.“I just try to ignore it,” Noil said. “Nobody knows how I really feel but my mother, my grandmother and my aunt.”

I didn't read thread, but I read article and this is what I call cherry picking. If you read article Noil stated after the comment in LSU socks "they don't make any Karr socks, or I'd have worn them."

Not continue with assumptions and speculation people

Ted Lewis is a Tulane homer, always has been. Did you read the part where he said Fournette's playing weight is 235? If he plays at 235, Dylan Moses is 240. Neither is correct. Now go back to believing what you read in the Newspaper, by a guy, The Picayune didn't keep employed.

Excellent point and it could be both of their sources are getting info at different times. If the sources talk to a recruit or those close to him after a visit he may be high on the school he last visited. Different sources can interpret things differently as well. Long way to go.

Oh I don't care about the writer, or the article as far as recruiting. But to pick and choose what to quote to make it serve the purpose you want is idiotic. Show the full quote at least since the part I typed up showed what Noil actually said.
