A great game doesn't have to have current gen graphics dude. 7,8 &9 are three great games. Imo, three of the greatest.

I'm going to give you this hint because it will help tremendously later. No spoilers.
Go to the Underwater Reactor at Junon and fight the enemy called "Ghost Ship". Morph it and you will get a guidebook. Bring that to the traveler dude in the town "Kalm".
Doing this will save you so much frustration later if you want to defeat all the weapons.

You should get around. It's forums like these will typically only praise VII and X. Nothing against these games, but enthusiasts will typically go for VI or IX.
You'd be surprised how much you hear differently.

You can't go wrong with any SNES or PS1 FF games. They are all masterpieces in my eyes.

The art style is far more fantasy than the steampunk of VII or the combination of steampunk/newage/fantasy of VIII. I don't see how that's cartoony, but I suppose the inclusion of non-human characters may give to that perception.

That wasn't a joke. But I guess you're past that particular part in the story.
I did it once on one of my many play-throughs just to see what it was like and realized it wasn't worth the effort after that.
