I know Vandy travelled to Oregon and A&M went to Cal St. Fullerton. I wouldn't mind seeing us playing a top team in a home/home sort of thing.

Would anybody be opposed to beefing up our out of conference schedule? Maybe try to add teams like UCLA, Florida St, etc.?

I'm sure we all would love a good home and home series in baseball. Too bad the one I would love will NEVER happen with the current coaches. I would love to play UVA, but the coaches refuse to schedule each other out of friendship.

I think I remember reading awhile back that we don't play big time non conference road games, or home games for that matter because they cost us $$$. 1st off if you play say a North Carolina, they would want a 2 year home and home contract. You can't get North Carolina in a home series without the return trip. Cost money to fly out to these locations, pay for hotel and expenses from Friday-Sunday. The financial reward like there is in a big non conference game in college football is not there. These game would end up costing us money. Makes more financial sense for LSU to schedule a crappy or sub par Northern team to come down for 3 games. These schools have no choice but to play these games seeing as the weather is shite during this time. Playing baseball in New York in Feb. in not my ideal of fun.
BTW last 3 game non conference road trip was Stetson in 2006

A couple of years ago I would have said A&M because my wife's family all went there. I love talking shite to them.

I guess know I'd like to see Miami maybe. Would be a fun trip.

Also seeing we are actually one of the few schools that profit from college baseball, the money we would loose from giving up 3 home games is big. Even though you play Brown in a at best half empty stadium, all the tickets where sold out and that is money for LSU.

I thought we played at UC Irvine a couple years ago. 2010? Was it a home series?

Okay. I assumed it was a money issue, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. I was looking at schedules and noticed the Vandy/Oregon and A&M/CSF series, so I decided to throw it out there.

Well, I guess the next question would be, if this was a perfect world what team(s) would you want to see at the Box?

I'd choose Cal State Fullerton and Arizona State. Two teams I've always wanted to see play.

Seems like this conversation always happens about this time of year.

I would love for Fullerton to come out West and play Stanford, Fullerton, or Oregon.

The only reason they don't is because of money. I understand the need for money, but LSU makes more money than most other teams and thus if they had to do without one series of revenue in order to play some quality teams early.

I wish they'd bring back the series they used to do in the late 80s/early 90s. Tulane, UNO, and LSU would play against three teams in the dome. I think one year was UCLA, USC, and either Fullerton/Stanford or Long Beach State or something. I think one year was Texas teams and one year was Florida teams. They were a blast to go to.

LSU has a stadium to pay for, so is rarely traveling, but is scheduled to play in Houston College Classic in two years.

From Nola.com on 3/15/13:

LINK

quote:

Next spring, the Tigers' pre-conference weekends (all at Alex Box Stadium unless noted) are against:

Feb. 14-16: The University of New Orleans (Friday/Sunday in Baton Rouge, Saturday at Maestri Field)

Feb. 21-23: A four-team round-robin event involving Virginia Tech, Texas Southern and Toledo

Feb. 28-March 2: Yale

March 7-9: Purdue

In 2015, the Tigers' pre-SEC weekend lineup is highlighted by a trip to Houston right before the conference season begins.

LSU will play three games in three days at Minute Maid Field. Notre Dame is also in the tournament, which generally includes one or more Big 12 Conference teams from Texas and either Rice or Houston.

The Tigers' weekends before league play in 2015 will be:

Feb. 13-15: Kansas

Feb. 20-22: Boston College

Feb. 27-March 1: A four-team round-robin event involving Air Force, Columbia, and Georgetown

March 6-8: Houston College Classic in Houston
