That's easy to say forty years after the fact. They were actually fairly cutting edge when they first appeared on the scene in the early '70's.

Cutting edge? They were part of the southern rock movement, but they were hardly cutting edge.

And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they weren't a good band and didn't put out their fair share of hits. But I think a lot of their southern rock cult like status is attributed to the plane crash. Much like Nirvana with Cobain. But I digress....

My opinion, don't know how popular: 99% of bands with female leads would have been better if it was a man.

Interesting. I prefer female leads.

One thing Nirvana and Skynyrd have in common is that they each put out one undeniably infectious track that has been (and will be) played for years and years to come. I don't even have to name them.

The Black Keys have already outlived their relevancy by about a year, and yet, they play on the radio every 5 songs or so, and are on every other commercial.
The Black Keys are, IMO, almost as awful as Mumford and Sons, and are similar to them in that:
They allow traditional pop-exclusive listeners to act like they are well-rounded and musically aware, when, in fact, these bands are extremely pedestrian in terms of talent.

American Aquarium is boring.

Radiohead is outright unenjoyable to listen to.
