Here's a weird thought...

The only times Harper has looked good is when he's up in the box. He plays solid against the run, and he's honestly been one of our best pass rushers on the blitz.

Other than his (obviously small) size, he plays like a ... outside linebacker.

Not that I would want this over a true linebacker like Jones, but anyone think Ryan is considering going small and fast?

edited to add- I'm just trying to make some sense out of the Vaccaro pick over who was still there

I had wondered the same but dismissed it as my desperate attempt to rationalize the pick. I don't think there is anyway it happens though, but Harper has to play somewhere for the amount we pay him.

Coming from someone who doesn't really question the staff, cause there has to be a reasonable answer, this is no hard to see, but is puzzling....

He is a replacement for Jenkins (moving him to Harper's spot and Harper out). That's it.

The "bang for buck" is very week though, especially considering other needs we had.

We had the two worst safeties in the league last year, how was there a bigger need?

That has been discussed on this board a shite ton on the last three years.
Lead the team in sacks and I believe tackles year before lat

Because of the classic defensive rule- a strong pass rush makes your secondary much better. I don't think either safety was TERRIBLE, but they were hung out to dry a whole lot.

If the scheme can generate more pressure, I think we'll be ok. Remember, we're basically playing to keep the other team below 24 points- I'd put us at 11-5 or better if we can do that.

Even under Williams when we got pressure, these guys were not good.
