Annoying Playoff-isms: "A series doesn't start until the home team loses"

So a 7 Game Series in which the home team won every game never started?
Why must analysts regurgitate that & other annoying crap every single playoffs? Feel free to list yours.
Reduced points if it is something mentioned by Reggie Miller as everything that comes out of his mouth is guaranteed to lower IQ points.

I hate it when people talk about playoff football/basketball/hockey/etc as if it's fundamentally different from regular season.
Yes, there is more pressure (particularly in a one and done environment) and the level of competition is higher, but it's the same game.

The 2004 NLCS never started.

That really might be the worst cliche in sports.

My number 1 is saying a team lost home court because they lost a home game. Maybe 2 times in NBA history has a series gone 7 games and the home team won every game. The biggest advantage to home court advantage is game 7, a distant second is game 1. losing game 2 at home does not mean you lost home court for game 7.

Defense wins championships.
A slight difference between playoffs and regular season is that it happens at a slower pace in some sports.

Before the series starts, if you have home court advantage, it means that you do not have to win a road game to win the series. If the road team wins game 1 or 2, they no longer have to win a road game to win the series if they win all of their home games. So in a nutshell, yes, if the home team loses game one or two, they have no lost home court advantage.

Edited for those not able to figure out some things are givens under the traditional NBA formats:
No home court means you get 4 of 7 games at home, the series starts at your home court, and if it goes 7 games you will get 4 home games, that fundemental fact does not change. Losing a home game means you will have to win a road game if you win the series, nothing more, nothing less.

Home court advantage means that you get more games at home than the other team. If given the opportunity to play a series like this:
Game 1 Home
Game 2 Home
Game 3 Road
Game 4 Road
Game 5 Home
Game 6 Home
Game 7 Road
Professional teams would choose the 4 games at home every time over picking to have only 3 home games, but Game 7 at home.

I hardly consider Memphis and LAC to be on equal footing right now.

right and that doesn't change if you lose a home game. Do we really have to go thru the trouble of detailing everything single fact? I thought it was understood that the team with home court gets more games at home, hence no need to explain that.
ETA: your notion that home court means you only have to win the home games, then the advantage is the last game since, you can win the series if you win 4. no playoff format that is used in the US pro sports will give 1 team 4 home games without the other team having 3.

I'm not sure you completely get what home court advantage means, and how losing a game at home can affect the "advantage." Of course the venue won't change, but that's not the point.

It means you get to play more games at home if the series goes the disatance. That never changes. Under the 2-2-1-1-1 format (which i prefer) the team with home court will play every odd game at home except for game 3.
The advantage part (IMO) comes from starting the series at home (most teams that win game 1 win the series) and getting the deciding game at home if it goes the max. In addition, getting game 5 at home can be big since the team that wins game 5 in a 2-2 series wins the majority of the time.
It's very rare that a series goes 7 game and the home team wins every game. I can only think of 2 examples the 87 WS and a 93 Rockets-Sonics series.

One of the worst is when the commentators spend several minutes of seemingly every game 1 of a 1-8 discussing whether or not it was "stupid" for someone from the 8th seed team predicting that they will win the series.
It's an absolutely stupid question for starters (Do you, the 8th seed team, have a chance to upset?) and it's even more stupid when at least one of the broadcast team members seem to be always surprised when the 8th seed player doesn't say "yea we have no chance"
