With the Pelicans' payroll expected to decrease to just under $35 million, not including NBA draft signees, Williams said they will pursue trying to sign some veteran free agents.
"We’re looking at that,’’ Williams said. "We don’t want to bring in veterans for veterans' sake. We want to bring in the right guys that’s maybe familiar with our system or guys that I may have a relationship with that may want to do it.

CP3?
Seriously though, that's the 2nd time he's dropped his own name regarding Free Agency. I think Monty feels he has the inside track on some guys. Whether those are players we'll be excited about is another question entirely.

Well, the only guys he would have a "relationship" with would be: Former Spurs, Former Blazers, and former Hornets, right? With that the list could be narrowed down significantly.
I'll translate this though for you guys:
We aren't going to be looking at any major FAs this offseason. We will be looking at role players and backups. JMO.

So someone like Martell Webster? He's an unrestricted free agent that shouldn't cost too much and is still pretty young.

Pre CBA, he would have gotten overpaid. Now with the death of the NBA middle-class, he might be had at a good price. Really nice thought.
He would be a really good get at the right price, especially if there are some team options built in at some point, given his injury history. Would be the SF that can shoot the 3 that we need, possibly.

Just read an article that estimates Webster's value at 3 years 15-17 million or 4 years 20-21 million. Just one guy's opinion. Also speculates that he'll basically be the only FA that Washington pushes to resign/sign.

I'd agree with this. Honestly going from terrible to average at a few spots would make a big difference in the team record.

I think you might be able to throw in the Warriors too with Mike Malone there.

David West
Jarret Jack
Carl Landry
Marco Belinelli
Brandon Rush
Jerryd Bayless
Martel Webster
Dorell Wright
JJ Hickson
Dejuan Blair

I was thinking something along the lines of 3 yrs 12-14 mil. I'd rather not commit to a 4 yr deal though.

This is where I think Monty needs to step up. I know it's not his "job" to sign FA's, but if he's as respected that has been mentioned, he (and Dell) need to land some significant players. We have the money.
I guess this " younger movement " didn't work as planned. Monty says he needs his players to put on some " big boy " pants.
Yes, I've been critical of Monty. Throwing his players under the bus at the end of the season, to me, wasn't too wise. If he does get some veterans, and we still struggle, there wont be any other excuses.

Don't forget MT5 and Collison.

First person I thought of but I also thought Monty hated his defensive effort.

Maybe Thornton has been humbled in Sacramento and is ready to work.

quote:Not sure what you are talking about "younger movement didn't work." It was never a one year rebuild. We had to get through this year to clear the cap room to continue the rebuild this year. If he completes free agency by bringing in overpriced marginal veterans, then he has failed.

Thornton is not a Free Agent and Collison didn't really play for Monty. The Clippers have team options for Willie Green so he may not be a FA either.

The kind that can't score?

Do we throw max money at CP and make him turn us down? I say yes

Yeah, that was always dependent on Gordon being a stud and the Hornets having a good season and appearing ready. I think Houston might be the odds on favorite now if he leaves LA.
