Wiki page

Sad that two weeks passed before anyone ever noticed he was missing. Unique voice and unfortunately I haven't seen AIC live to this day. Don't even know if I'd enjoy it with Duvall leading....

The story of his death is quite creepy. Dude weighed about 80 lbs and was missing some fingers and most of his teeth. Heroin's a hell of a drug.

The veins in his fingers collapsed from sticking too many needles in there and they basically just died and rotted off. His body had been decomposing for about two weeks when it was found so that may have something to do with it as well. I don't think the doctor could determine the exact day of death.

Jesus. I never really read about Layne's death; just figured it was a party one night, found dead the next morning kind of deal. I know he was getting pretty bad towards the end, but hadn't ever heard this before.

He was one of the greats taken far too early. One of my all time favorites

Yea I had no idea about any of this stuff. I just read his wiki. I knew he was a junkie but this dude took the word junkie to unprecedented lengths

yeah, i remember feeling really bad that he had been dead for that long and nobody even knew...and i believe it was his aunt who found him...it's got to be a horrible to distance yourself that far from everyone who cares about you.

I'm pretty sure that the bass player Mike that was on Celebrity Rehab died not that long ago as well.

ETA Don't Follow is a bad arse song, as well as Nutshell and Got Me Wrong....

mike starr...yeah, a couple of years ago...he was apparently the last person to see layne before he died, and they had a fight at that time about whether or not layne needed to see a doctor...it doesn't seem like he ever got over the guilt of not forcing the issue.

Layne's mom should up and pleaded to Mike to stop. It was very emotional and pretty much explained to him what layne did and rehashed old memories.

He used to slip into coffee houses near his place, sit a while then leave. People tried to reach him to no avail. His final interview is chilling.

Great early version of this song live at the Moore Theater in Seattle. A very different Layne Staley interacts with the crowd.
