HBO/vice home

Been a fan of Vice's crazy online documentaries for a couple years. Interested in seeing how this develops.
If anyone isn't already familiar with Vice, here's the homepage: Vice
quote:
Vice, HBO's half-hour newsmagazine that premieres today, plans to "expose the absurdity of the modern condition," as its tagline promises.
In the opening episode, Vice Media CEO Shane Smith drives through Kabul, wearing black Ray-Bans and set to interview a senior Taliban leader and old pal of Osama bin Laden. By the season finale, reporter Ryan Duffy hangs in North Korea with Dennis Rodman, Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un and the Harlem Globetrotters.

Pretty excited about it.
I predict that we'll see a lot of discussion about this show on multiple boards.

Already on it. I'm a big fan of the YouTube docs.

Makes me wish I had HBO. But only a half hour? Makes me worry they will just condense the stuff they already have.

Tonight's episode is about political violence in the Philippines and child suicide bombers in Afghanistan.

Yeah, not sure what they can do in 30 minutes other than advertise the vast and awesome content they have to offer online, but it sounds like they've got some original segments planned.
Regardless of what direction it goes in, it will be interesting to see if they can get a more mainstream audience exposed to the underbelly of the world, and how that audience will react.

The episode tonight was good. They scratch the surface of the issues but do a great job of getting inside/behind the scenes like vice always does.
I had no idea they were returning to North Korea. That will be beyond creepy. That needs an episode dedicated to itself

I was wondering how their format would translate to TV and so far it seems perfect. Easily could have been a full hour, IMO.
I hope a lot of people check it out to see what journalism can be - no long dramatic intros, no talking heads trying to explain to you why Talibanis are good or bad, but actual direct interviews with people at the heart of the story.

That was a good base episode there were no intense moments but left me wanting for more, and its a show that ties your emotions into it.

I could have done without the severed head and body parts

Yeah, the head was pretty wild. Also didn't like seeing tons of dead woman and children and a 9/11 replay, but I guess that shite happened, so no use in trying to pretend it doesn't. I thought the episode was great. I love watching Vice videos and look forward to more.
