LA ranks top of nation in "gun violence"

I hate the term "gun violence" because it implies the gun itself is violent, but hey, that's what the article says.

I think this comment at the bottom really sums it up:

quote:

"Normalize North Baton Rouge and parts of Nola and LA would be among the lowest murder rates. Why make it a State issue when it is clearly an isolated urban issue?"

Vitter, Landrieu

I really like this quote too:

quote:

"utter nonsense. There are millions of legal gun owning non-violent people. There are also millions of illegal gun owning gun thugs. What separates the two? Its not gun laws. Its culture."

Politicians will not be happy until they turn me into an outlaw.

Yeah, if they think the outlaws now are bad. Turn folks like us into outlaws and see what happens.

I would suspect that "gun violence" is high because guns are available. If there were no guns the story would be about rampant stick violence or knife violence. Really it is about violence and guns don't make the violence more or less common. They make the life and death stakes higher, but guns don't cause violence.

Colion Noir said it best in one of his videos. He said asked, "What is the obsession with gun violence? If you take the 'gun' out of 'gun violence' what are you left with? You still have violence."

I completely agree with him. Why not try to get rid of violence altogether instead of being obsessed with the tool used? Because it's easier and makes people 'feel good.'

Remove the criminal from the public not the gun from the criminal.

This map is always interesting to me - speaks to the exact points already made regarding highly concentrated urban areas (which tend to be Democrat strongholds) versus the rest of the population:

Why are Vermont and Maine colored in blue under the map titled "FBI Statistics for gun violence"?

Violence per capita, Vermont and Maine don't have large populations.

Then they wouldn't be colored blue; nor would NH.

I will never understand why idiots think that having mandatory background checks and banning certain types of guns will stop a criminal from getting a gun. They're gonna get a gun one way or the other. But, I know, I'm

No, they're blue to show the numbers of violent acts compared to population of that state, not compared to other states. A high rating in per capita for one place may be 300 events in an area of 100k, while 300 events in an area of 1mil is low per capita.

Dude, did you look at the source of that link and information you just posted?

Here it is if you didn't: Brady Campaign State Scorecard Rankings

I think I will stick with the FBI numbers over those of the Brady Campaign when discussing murder rates and gun violence.

You're beating a dead horse talking about it to us since we already know the answer.

But it's amazing that the general public cannot understand this concept.

Yes. Here was my link: LINK

The source for the numbers in that link is:
Crime in the United States 2010 - FBI Uniform Crime Reports
LINK

That wasn't the source of the numbers. That was the source of the Brady Campaign Score for Gun Laws; which is not what I commented on.

Then you would agree with what I've been posting.
