Is there any advantage to curved plate armor vs. flat plate armor? Will the contour make that much of a difference inside a vest?

The armor is class 3. Also, is class 3 sufficient from a doomsday/zombie/end-of-times perspective?

The Plates I am looking at will stop Green TIps:

Rating: AR500 Armor Trauma Plates are stand alone, multi-hit capable, and bench tested to the same armor rating as Type III. Type III Armor will defeat rifles rounds up to 7.62x51/.308 @ 2780 ft/s.

Recent testing provided good results against Federals XM855/SS109 Penetrator Round (Green Tip 5.56). We fired 7 rounds at 15 yards within a 2.5" group and experienced no penetration.

Curved plates are a little more ergonomic and comfortable. About the only big diff I'm aware of.

It seems that the curved plate would deflect the round better than a flat plate. Deflect more energy and what not.

Deflection is bad because you don't know where the round is going to deflect to. You want the round to stop.

Plate armor is great, just don't buy kevlar and the like for "prepper" type applications becasue they degrade over time and only last 5-6 years.

Plate armor may be heavy, but it is a better option.

If your going to get something that is going to add 15 lbs of weight minimum you better workout in the damn thing. Curving armor tho generally can displace the energy of the round better when the armor is hit. Also it it may reduce the amount if area of armor that is rendered useless after part of it is struck

Stopping the round or not, it will not be pleasant to absorb that kinetic energy if hit center mass where the plate is designed to be worn. I'd just as soon it pass through and be done with it...much less multiple rounds....I guess we are discussing "prepping" and "zombie appocalypse" scenarios here. I can't imagine taking that hit, irregardless if the plate stops/deflects the round, still a LOT of energy displaced....Begging to have your aorta rip...Just hope the bad guys give you 15min to dawn your entry vest and shoot at you with a 22LR! Wearing even the most sophisticated vests, the armor plate is a biznitch to deal with...adds a lot of weight and in the seated position, drives you insane...at least it did to me.

So, I can spend zero dollars and give you zero dollars and you agree to take a bullet?
That's a deal.

Just carry one and dont get shot in the back.

Op curved plates are supposed to further mitigate penetration by not allowing the rounds to impact at a 90 degree angle. Its the same reasom you see angled armor on APC's and tanks. One thing about the AR 500 plates is that the flat plates are ampedixtrous(sp) the curved ones are not so when you order one you have to make sure to tell them weather or not you are left handed. Fwiw I plan on ordering a plate or two myself.

You dont want steel plates.

Check around ar15.com there are always people selling plates.

And if you are spending the money, you might as well get level 4 plates.

I am going to order a full set up: I got front and back, and side to side....(name that tune)

OR.....Utilize my volunteer bullet stopper listed above for the SHTF Moment.

I don't know shite about either, but physically, less flat area could reduce the amount of impact absorbed. Basically, deflect vs absorb.

I would be concerned about purchasing an "entrepreneur" making money on fake plates. "Sorry Sir, you bought the Air Soft Body Armor...and Suppressor."
