If you think this is Germans and/or not worth discussing then don't.

The defense looked pretty dominant up until that last Bama drive. What surprised me though was the way they played the rest of the season. Post Bama, the pass rush was gone, the secondary resembled swiss cheese and some teams even got the run going on our vaunted defense.

Were the reasons personnel related, did we get exposed or was it the players not giving the same effort. Some of the things I heard post season about players not giving their all got me thinking about this question.

I think it was a combination of a number of things. However, since 2/3rds of that group is no longer with us, I'm moving on. 2012 is history.

Not wanting to get hurt to ruin NFL chances. They quit.

Like Sonic Sam said, they took the rest of the season off. No SEC/ NC, no care.

I for one am glad that last group of players are gone from the Jefferswag era.

There are NO players left on the team that were here when Jefferson played?

While you're at it do you have any questions about the 2011 season?

They phoned it in. Look at the Ole Miss game. We don't touch Wallace the entire game until the very end. The guy was a statue back their. When the game was on the line, our defensive line was suddenly unblockable.

Sorry...it started with the Towson game when we let them go 80 yards on 6 plays and score a td late in the game.

Next game, UF rushes for 239 yards and has a TOP advantage of 37-22.

Next, USC goes 77 yards on 11 plays and scores a td with under 2 minutes to play.

A&M goes 80 yards on 9 plays to score a td with under 2 minutes.

Defense had trouble with Ole Myth and Clemson as well. The loss of TM7 and the mindset of the 6 juniors that left early were the major problems for the defense this year IMO.

The head coach places too much emphasis on one game. Hence, inconsistent performances throughout the season.

I thought they played lights out against A&M post adjustment. Even SCAR, they did pretty well. I do agree with the jist of your post though - the warning signs were there early. The lack of effort post Bama probably showed the weaknesses even more because I think the D line quit. Stopped hiding the secondary's newness.

That and teams realized our secondary wasn't as strong as the sunshine pumpers thought and they went after it. This is also the reason the sunshine pumpers can't assume the 2013 defense will be as good as the 2011 defense because "we just reload"
