It’s fitting that West Virginia receiver Tavon Austin and former West Virginia defensive end Bruce Irvin have been going back and forth regarding whether Austin will be drafted higher than Irvin was a year ago.

For Austin, some perceive his over-under spot in round one to be pick 15. Which is the place at which the Seahawks picked Irvin in 2012.

Austin, we’re told, has been invited to the attend the draft. He has yet to decide whether to accept, possibly because there’s a chance he’ll slide. After all, some are troubled by Austin’s size.

Still, his quickness and elusiveness and unexpected straight-line speed have made him one of the potential impact players in the 2013 draft. Besides, didn’t we learn after Russell Wilson’s performance in 2012 that size truly doesn’t matter?

The Saints currently hold the 15th spot in the draft. While they are unlikely to pick Austin (then again, Drew Brees surely would love to have him), that would be the spot into which anyone picking after 15 would likely have to trade, because Austin’s floor very well could be the impact-player-challenged Rams at No. 16.

I'm still not convinced he will go in the first round. Way over 15, IMO.

Just read that and I still say Minnesota moves up possibly with the Saints seeing as they have two first round picks and get Austin.

5'8 would concern me. You're asking him to be Steve Smith

He's a beast and I would love to see the Saints trade down in the first and get us a 2nd round pick in return.

unexpected straight-line speed

It won't be a huge move up to get him, but someone would swap 1st and throw in a 3rd rounder to move in front the Rams for him

Austin screams bust to me for some reason...reminds me of Titus Young a little. No way Sean Payton goes for a guy with red flags left and right.

WR in the first always is a bust, unless it is a Calvin Johnson type player. Those players are a once in a decade type player. There are none in this draft.

What Red Flags left and Right?

If we trade down I think we should get more than swap picks and a 3rd rd....we should get 2nd and 3rd plus swap 1st

Are you just saying this because they are both short fast guys? He plays nothing like Young. Young is more of a deep threat guy and Austin is a run after the catch type

I'd weirdly be ok with Austin. I think Ryan will get the talent we have to play above their talent like Williams did with a Gary Gibbs defense. This draft is defensively deep.

Edit: just wonder what we do with Toon.

Almost all of the mock's I have seen have Carolina going NT at 14. Who the hell are their WRs after old arse Smith and Lafell. I mean they have a good TE in Olsen, but I'm surprised they haven't made a push yet for a WR, wonder if they may do a trade right before us for someone wanting Austin or take him themselves.

ETA: oh wait, I think they signed Ginn... Stud ha

You could argue that Jones is in the same class with Johnson as far as once in a decade type player. Jones is already elite IMO.

OK, so two in a decade. Again, there is no WR in this draft worth the #15 pick.

Megatron, Julio, and AJ are all better than any WR in this draft. I would even say you could get a WR in the late second that can easily be as good as the first WR taken.
