Thoughts on Backup Cameras

Any of you with factory backup/rear view cameras:
- how useful are they?
- is their field of view good enough for trailer hook-up?
I'm thinking about installing a retrofit kit on my Silverado. Thanks for the info.

Men have backed up and hooked to trailers for nearly 100 years in a vehicle.

pretty sure that I read that backup cameras have to be standard install on ever vehicle above a certain size on 2014 models....and that all pickups, SUV's and mini vans would apply to that.
We have it on our vehicles now....I would never pay a single penny more for that shite! But eventually they will add it to the cost of my next vehicle because the government says so...and I will be forced by the government to pay for something that I really dont use...

I have one and fricking love it. I didn't go out hunting for one but the truck had it anyways. It gets used everyday and has saved my bumper because of it.

Because I don't see the need for one. I pull a boat,4wheeler, or cattle trailer probably 60+ times a year and my bumper is fine too. Why pay extra for something I don't need. Do I see how it works and the benefit? Yes... I'm sure my wife would love it.

I agree but I'll stick by my statement...I wouldnt pay an extra penny for it. If it comes with my vehicle (which it has) then that is what it is...but I wouldnt get hit up for 500 bucks for that bullshite.
I learned the hard way (when I was 15) how to back up a truck and dont seem to struggle with it anymore for the last 15 or so years....

I mean, I would hate to think that there is an OB'er that doenst know how to back a phucking truck up so much that they would LOVE A BACKUP CAMERA to help them accomplish that difficult task!

Cant speak for TC but.....Sheet....I will drank out of anything glass bottle, alum'ma'num cans, mason jars, solo cups, shot glasses...etc I aint picky when it comes to a camp drank!
I have cameras on my house to protect my family...but I dont need a camera on my bumper....if you slap one on there...I will take it, but I aint asking for it.
