“We need to think big,” Swofford said. “One of the things we brought up to our schools last week was we may play football, we may play basketball in Europe. Across the pond, so to speak.”

“The NFL is going to London, as is the NBA with some regularity,” the commissioner said. “The Olympics are so successful over there. Basketball is an international sport. Football is not, but there is a growing interest in it in Great Britain.

“When you look at this collection of schools and markets, all our institutions are international in one degree or another.”

Tobacco Road in Europe? Incoming member (in everyting but football) Notre Dame killed it in Dublin last year. Think Boston College making a similar trip. The Duke or North Carolina brands would be attractive in Europe. Just wondering, but how would Miami swagger -- once the Canes get past the current messiness -- play across the Atlantic?

kinda comes across as a huge slap in the face to the season ticket holders they do have.

I'd be pissed if my team lost a home game to a stunt for TV

the people in England, Ireland and the rest of Europe do like american football but they like the NFL. There is basically no college football coverage b/c it lacks the star power of the NFL. Skysports shows almost ever NFL game.

I didn't think having ND/Navy out in Dublin was a terrible idea, but shit, the ACC doing this

sending ACC teams to play football overseas is a great way to lose international fans.

amusingly if it takes hold at all and the europeans start following cfb, you can be almost certain someone like SKY will buy the rights to broadcast SEC games there over ACC. They set em up and we'd knock em down.

It's just like here. As soccer has taken off, there isn't exactly a bidding war to see who gets to show the Danish League ffs

I like NCAA way more than NFL. I could see this not turning out so bad in general, but the ACC isn't where to start it. shite have a badass bowl game across the pond. That could generate some excitement.

The difference is that Barclays isn't anywhere close to the best league in Europe.

Are you saying that the ACC is marketable in England because they're used to mediocre football...of any name?

Texas Tech vs Arkansas H&H in the works

quote:

Texas Tech's Rivals site, RedRaiderSports.com, initially reported the possibility of the two schools meeting for the first time since 1991, after which Arkansas left the Southwest Conference for the SEC. The Razorbacks' coach confirmed his knowledge of those discussions in a radio interview on Sports Talk with Bo Mattingly.

"I've been engaged with that talk," Bielema said. "There has been a lot of hesitation since I've been here because we haven't gotten the 2014 SEC schedule. Until that kind of gets finalized and '15 gets finalized, we can't move forward, but there are a lot of interesting possibilities out there -- some things I know will excite our fan base in more than one way."

SEC commissioner Mike Slive recently told reporters that the league was "closing in" on finalizing the 2014 football schedule. According to the Rivals' report, the initial meeting would likely be played at Texas Tech in 2014 with a return game in Fayetteville set for 2015.

Sounds like PSU is demanding UCF play them in Ireland instead of honoring the back end of a H&H deal. Sucks for UCF fans who would lose their biggest home game of that year.

quote:

UCF is in talks to play Penn State in Dublin, Ireland, to open the 2014 season.

“We have talked to them about being a potential opponent, but we are far from an agreement,” said David Hansen, UCF senior associate athletics director for internal operations. “Logistically, it’s not easy.”

The two schools have been engaged in negotiations for several months, but they have yet to come to an agreement. Penn State had reached out to other schools. However, Penn State coach Bill O’Brien and UCF coach George O’Leary, who are both of Irish heritage, would prefer to play each other during the contest, a source with direct knowledge of the talks told the Sentinel.

O’Leary gave O’Brien one of his first coaching jobs, hiring the former New England Patriots assistant as a graduate assistant at Georgia Tech.

The teams agreed to a home-and-home series, with UCF traveling to Penn State this fall. The date of Penn State’s game at UCF had not been settled, setting up an opportunity for the schools to meet overseas.

LSU and Wisconsin in Houston?

Officials with the Texas Kickoff Classic would not confirm the story when contacted by FOX 26 Sports

App State replaces McNeese St with Campbell as an OOC FCS game.

quote:

Appalachian State University's 2014 football schedule is taking shape with the addition of a home game versus Campbell and the cancellation of a previously scheduled trip to McNeese State.

Due to Appalachian State's move to the FBS ranks, the Mountaineers and McNeese State have cancelled their home-and-home series, which included games in Lake Charles, La. in 2014 and at Kidd Brewer Stadium in 2015. When the schools entered the agreement in 2009, the contract included a stipulation that either party could cancel the series without penalty if one of the programs made the move from NCAA Division I FCS to FBS.
