Not sure of the right PC term. "Little Person" High School Baseball Player

My nephew pitched in a high school game recently here in Louisiana. He has a shutout going in the last inning but loads the bases with 2 outs. The game wasn't close but the other team obviously didn't want to be shutout. The coach sends in a "little person" to bat trying to draw a walk to score. The look on my nephew's face was like "WTF". He somehow gets two strikes on the little guy and they put another batter in and got him out without giving up a run.
Is this good strategy or Bush League? It didn't work but I could see it being a pretty good idea in a tight ball game, especially in High School ball.

I didn't realize you can take out a batter mid at bat without injury. Very bush
