FOR THOSE WHO WANT UPFRONT ONLY HIS COMMENTARY ON THE SCRIMMAGE. THANKS, JREVONTE!

1) First series of scrimmage (Posted on 3/23/13 at 11:29 a.m.)

Fast pace no huddle...j-Hill starting on 1st "O"...

1st "O" 2nd "D" then

2nd "O" 1st "D"

2) re: First series of scrimmage (Posted on 3/23/13 at 11:33 a.m. to jrevonte)

Looks like "Charlie Ward and Florida State" type offensive pace! 1st team "O" rolled thru no prob...second "O" had problems

2nd and 3rd "O" couldn't handle pace

3) re: First series of scrimmage (Posted on 3/23/13 at 11:42 a.m. to boxcarbarney)

quote:Who's running the 3rd and 2nd O's

2nd "O" QB: Rivers

Rb: Hilliard

3rd "O" QB: Jennings

Rb: McGee ;

*Showed some option with 3rd "O"*

4) re: First series of scrimmage (Posted on 3/23/13 at 11:51 a.m. to jrevonte)

1st "O" vs 1st "D"

O showed option...secondary locked receivers down; lot of play action; and bubble screens...offense moving ball easy on ground having problems trying to pass...1st defense won

5) re: First series of scrimmage (Posted on 3/23/13 at 11:52 a.m. to jrevonte)

Jennings running 2nd O vs 2nd "D"...sweet completion on corner route

6) re: First series of scrimmage (Posted on 3/23/13 at 11:55 a.m. to jrevonte)

Jennings throws Pass to TE for completion!!!

7) re: First series of scrimmage (Posted on 3/23/13 at 12:02 p.m. to sunnydaze)

1st "D-line" consistently bit on play action but you can't blame them they have to respect J-Hill...secondary held up WR long enough for front 7 to recover tho...

8) re: First series of scrimmage (Posted on 3/23/13 at 12:25 p.m. to ninthward)

quote:looks like AJ is going to be our option guy.

Yep, just went over right side with a nice long TD run...

9) re: First series of scrimmage (Posted on 3/23/13 at 12:18 p.m. to hg)

Jennings running 2nd series with #2 J- Hill in Backfield

10) re: First series of scrimmage (Posted on 3/23/13 at 12:20 p.m. to APTexasTiger)

quote: Is Welter at MLB?

No, looks like he is running with #3

He is running with the #1's now!!! He has command of the field at middle got sealed tho not good...

Tried to blitzed got stopped at the line...

Missed tackle on J-Hill twice looks like he read wrong hole...second time for TD...

He is moving too fast, he is over and under running plays

11) re: First series of scrimmage (Posted on 3/23/13 at 12:37 p.m. to harry coleman beast)

Mettsiah 30yard play action pass for TD in back of endzone!!!

12) re: First series of scrimmage (Posted on 3/23/13 at 12:41 p.m. to boxcarbarney)

quote:Another 2 QB system?

Not...but I think fast pace and play action will hurt opposing "D" tho....QB's are making audible calls more also which could be an interesting wrinkle

13) re: First series of scrimmage (Posted on 3/23/13 at 12:47 p.m. to DBeaux225)

quote: Mettsiah 30yard play action pass for TD in back of endzone!!! Who caught it?

Jarvis Landry

14) re: First series of scrimmage (Posted on 3/23/13 at 12:55 p.m. to toughcrittercrumb)

quote: How different does the offense look?

Similar to last year just cleaner...looks like they added quicker tempo and a lot more play action which will have "opposing D" off balance...

15) re: First series of scrimmage (Posted on 3/23/13 at 12:59 p.m. to jrevonte)

1st "O" vs 2nd "D" Micah Eugene pic 6 on Mett...

16) re: First series of scrimmage (Posted on 3/23/13 at 1:02 p.m. to Tigerbait357)

quote: Any differences in formations and route running?

Earlier they ran screens now QB's are throwing more up field; spread and 1back formation; Jennings back in with #2 "O"

17) re: First series of scrimmage (Posted on 3/23/13 at 1:07 p.m. to omegaman66)

quote: Who is at right CB? How has Rivers looked?

The Jalens are at corner; Martin and Losten...welter at middle; Rivers looks average he is running with #3; Reciever just dropped his TD pass

18) re: First series of scrimmage (Posted on 3/23/13 at 1:12 p.m. to CamdenTiger)

quote: Pull Mett!! Have him work on accuracy over the Summer.

Pic wasn't Mettsiah fault he threw beautiful deep pass hit receiver in hands WR bobbled ball Micah caught ball out of air and took it the other way...Mett is having. Good day IMO

19) re: First series of scrimmage (Posted on 3/23/13 at 1:14 p.m. to LSUnation78)

1vs1 situation down 6; minute 30 to go!!!

This period will make the difference in LSU winning and losing next year...how they handle the end of a game

20) re: First series of scrimmage (Posted on 3/23/13 at 2:30 p.m. to sunnydaze

quote:Thought welter was running with the 3s?

Ended practice rolling with the #1's

21) re: First series of scrimmage (Posted on 3/23/13 at 2:43 p.m. to sportsfan)

quote: How do the receivers look?

Landry looked the best of the crew had long TD catch against #1; OBJ had long catch down on 3yd line going in...Secondary didn't give up much but when they did the WR hit em pretty hard

22) re: First series of scrimmage (Posted on 3/23/13 at 3:06 p.m. to lsuguy13)

quote: Backs? Tight ends? Starting backers?

jHill, Hilliard looked good...majority one back and spread set... They both had roughly 30-40 rushing; J-hill 1 TD; tightends dropped two passes caught two...welter finished practice at middle wasnt watching other two...tell you this welter better get his game up if he wants that starting spot...he had too many costly mistakes IMO...

23) re: First series of scrimmage (Posted on 3/23/13 at 3:15 p.m. to sunnydaze)

quote: Welter just isn't good, how'd the DBs do?

my assessment is that DB's had a solid practice...I would give them an "A-"

24) re: First series of scrimmage (Posted on 3/23/13 at 7:23 p.m. to sunnydaze)

quote: Welter just isn't good, how'd the DBs do?

Won't judge whether he is good or not...what I will say is that he needs to read his keys better...those long runs by JHill came because Welter stepped into wrong gap..

It took me half way through your post before I realized that "First series of scrimmage" was the title of the thread and not meaning the actual first series...

Basically. And we better hope we don't get bitten by the likes of Auburn or State or we could be looking at 6-6.

Sorry for the commentary guys...It's an old habit, I was a Cavalry Scout in the military we had to report everything we saw back to home base... but anyways, dudes look at what you are saying, if after 6 days of practice and one mini scrimmage we look good enough to go 8-5 omg we are going to rupture the league next season(12-0) once the foundation is laid and all of the parts are put in place!!!

I don't know about the other guy but I was completely joking. I personally think we're going to wreck shite this year. This team is built very much like the 2011 team in that the offense has a ton of veterans and the defense is full of young, unproven talent. Now enter Cam..................

JREVONTE, I think you provided a valuable account of an event that probably none of us readers were able to view. I've not seen another detailed account like yours. Moreover, I think your analysis was insightful and balanced. For example, while you praised Mettenberger and the passing game, you still evaluated the DBs with an A- grade.

Are you going to scout and report the second scrimmage? I hope so!
