The Dodgers will be without their starting shortstop for nearly the first two months of the season. MRI results on Hanley Ramirez showed a tear in the ligament that stabilizes his right thumb, and the shortstop will have surgery on Friday in Los Angeles. He is expected to miss eight weeks.
Ramirez injured the thumb while diving for a ball in the third inning Tuesday night of the World Baseball Classic final in San Francisco, while playing third base. The injury at the time was described as a jammed right thumb. Ramirez actually stayed in the game for two more innings and got a single in his next at-bat.
After the surgery, which will be performed by Dr. Steve Shin, a hand specialist at the Kerlan Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles, Ramirez will have his right thumb immobilized for three weeks.

So now will there be concern about letting star players play in the WBC?

What's the prediction for Gordon? Looks like he'll get on base a lot, generate some steals and be a below average hitter.

Good thing they still have Jose Vizcaino on the roster.

Doesn't make sense to send a guy with 500 ABs over the last two years down when your starter is out.
However I don't know what y'alls other options are.
ETA: Schumaker?

If Gordon heals quickly he may get a shot while Hanley is out.
Otherwise Luis Cruz will move over to SS from 3B and 3B will be some combination of Jerry Hairston Jr, Nick Punto and Juan Uribe.

luis cruz played SS yesterday in a game. he will likely play SS, and juan uribe would most likely play 3rd.

he has been the absolute WORST the last 2 yrs, but he is playing very well this spring.
he always had a good glove, but he's finally starting to hit. if he can play effectively, that would be huge.
