As most of you know I "restored" a large pirogue recently. I am raising the white flag and calling it a loss. It is a great platform, but too heavy to paddle and throw around, and I can't get it registered for a trolling motor (Dad in Afghanistan, has no clue about paperwork, not something I'm interested in putting in effort to straighten out).
As I stand now, I want a kayak to fish and duck hunt out of. I want something maintenance free (no motors, trailers, paperwork, etc.) that I can just toss in the back of my truck and hit the water with. I am on a tight budget with a baby on the way and wife in school, so I am going with the Ascend A10. It is a basic model for $299 but will get me mobile. I was weary of the Sit In style, but after thinking about it, I will be better off with it for duck hunting, and I don't see it being a problem with light fishing. I like the 2013 model since it is basically a wide open hull with the seat in the middle, plenty of room to haul gear. I can add a rod holder up front, milk crate in the back, and be done.

re: I give up - getting a yak(Posted by Cracker on 3/19/13 at 10:10 pm to Polar Pop)
I have a 2 person sit in wilderness systems and i have no problem with a cooler dog decoys and hunting out of it. I take burlap and build a portable blind with para cord and the edge of the water with trees always had great success. I take out one of the seats to make room for the hound. I think my yak weighs about 60 lbs easy to handle on and off the truck and the wilderness systems seats are great.
