The problem is that NK's philosophy of self-reliance is a disaster and they totally depend on China's support. If the diplomats handle this correctly China will eventually deal with it and the US and South Korea will stand by to observe. It's possible there will be some skirmishes but this is really China's problem.

We would most certainly get involved and it would be a long and drawn out war that would approach Vietnam level casualties if we invaded.
