Who is Gus Fring?

In the episode where Gus and Max propose a deal, Max is killed, Don Eladio doesn't kill Gus because he knows who Gus really is. What do you think this means? Since Gus is no longer around, do you think they will flush this out?

I would like them too. I know the Hector called him Generalissimo, and it has been speculated he was a general from Chile.

No. They wanted to surround the character of Gus with mystery and ambiguity.

I think he may have meant it in more of a mocking fashion. Gus probably had family connections in the regime but he himself probably was not in it.

How'd that work out for him?

Walt likes to put out that he killed him.
Even Don Eladio didnt kill him for some reason, they have spent time making a point that no one knows anything about his past before the late 80's.
Don Eladio knew, someone else probably does too. Walt is clueless about that. Killing a powerful man you dont really know and throwing it out there that you did it..may come back to haunt.

My theory is that with Gus being Chilean and Madrigal being a German company, there might be some sort of Nazi connection. Might be a little far fetched though.

I still think in the end it will comeback to Eliot & Greymatter.

This was my theory before the start of Season 5 last year

I had a theory pop into my head last night. Early indications are that Walt will be dealing with the German's this season. I've been waiting 4 years for the Gray Matter storyline to unfold, what if at the end of all this Elliot Scwartz, is the kingpin, bigdog over the entire thing and this ends with Walt and Elliot facing off. Oh, by the way, the Schwartz name comes from German origins. I don't believe in coincidences.

Elliot seems like too much of a pussy. But who knows.

Elliot Scwartz, is the kingpin,
I like this.
the writers brought Gray Matter back into the storyline in season 5 episode "Buyout" (Walt tells Jesse that Gray Matter is worth 2 billion and he sold his shares for $5000).

I just think it's unlikely that two college partners/friends, wind up becoming drug king pins in ABQ, without having any knowledge of the other's secret life.
We will see, though.
We will see, though.

I still want to see Walt standing at the end.
