Fifa 13 TOTW

a few questions, namely for those who play manager mode

1. when you sim, do you find that your team has a player get hurt about every other game? if you add in suspensions and bull shite international messages, i'd say 2/3 of all games have that stupid email screen pop up after

2. is there any way to get rid of all international manager stuff, so they don't bug me? i assume no, b/c fifa's programmers can't think ahead to save their lives

3. what's the best way to bring young players along? do you sign them off the youth squad ASAP, or do they develop more quickly if you sign them sooner? are there any good resources that help you learn how to develop players faster?

Stupid glitch made me stop playing the game. My ps3 will freeze now when I try to look at a scout's report.

re: Fifa 13 TOTW

1) injuries during sim are my biggest pet peeve. I used to have a picture of my injury list where I had 8 players out for 2+ months with various "ligament" injuries and broken bones.

2) not that I'm aware of. Sorry!

3) I love scouting and youth progression in this game. As far as scouting goes I always save to buy 5* scouts. I then immediately sign to youth any player with 70+ to 90+ potential. I don't typically look at OVR. Then I leave them on the youth squad until they're 17 or they suck (< 85 potential) and I cut them. The reason is, I cannot get any team to take a player on loan that is under 17. Often times if I have a position of need and a player with 70+ OVR and 87+ potential I'll sign them as soon as they reach 16. As far as I know the only way to progress quickly is to play them. However, I have had youngsters progress 2-4 OVR sitting in reserves with sporadic at best PT.

If you can't afford 5* scouts which is/was the case in my Fleetwood Town MM I use similar tactics but its way more hit and miss. I also reduce my "sucks" threshold to below 80 potential. The biggest thing to remember is you will pretty much always find decent players you just have to be patient.

Hope that helps.

ETA: I also find that scouting the big areas for football turn up better players more often. And scouting "home" countries of scouts have a much higher success rate. For example I have an English and Spanish 5* scout and my youth system could play in the championship and finish upper table. I use my Korean scout to pilfer random countries and the US of A.

Me and you have the exact same strategy.

it's very organic to do the scouting thing, and sometimes you can get some gems, but it's just as easy to pilfer every top young player in the world by looking at players 70-75 and 18 or younger. that's the problem when your team gets successful and you have money

re: Fifa 13 TOTW

It's pretty fool proof.

SFP: I use a mixture of buying and scouting. But I find I typically have enough good youth to fill spots. However, I found an 88 OVR that was 22 after about 6 seasons and signed him.

ETA: Also something satisfying about fielding a team of your "finds". Like my 6'6" 20 y/o CB from Belgium. Wreckin' shop as an 86 OVR. Forgot to add earlier I "cheat" and sign players form the Int'l team I manage

re: Fifa 13 TOTW

i bought a CAM from real madrid that was 73 as an old 17 year old and is now a 78 as a young 19 year old. he'll probably bein the mid-20s by the end of the season i just started. i did scout a ST that is 74 at 19

but i just signed a 16 year old CAM that's a 71 at his signing. he's going to be awesome. i've found that you only need 1 good scout and just keep scouting your home country for "any" and you'll stumble upon some good ones. judgment matters more than experience, too

Makes sense. I just find by season 2-4 with Chelsea I have 100+ M pounds so I might as well have 3 beast scouts.

It's nice to scout strikers. I find it hard to find really good strikers and CAM. And GK progress really slowly, which is a P.I.T.A.

if you have a keeper that you scouted who is 84+ you have to be like fricking 10-15 years in

My scouting techniques are very similar to you guys, but I do want to ask you guys about something that pisses me off.

Literally all my scouted players are slow as freaking molasses. I have a striker I've developed to a 82 overall, but I refuse to start him because his speed is 64.

Have you guys found any way to get players that actually have speed like normal soccer players?

I do have one winger with 75 speed but that literally the fastest scouted player i've ever seen.

re: Fifa 13 TOTW

funny enough, all the "young/developmental" guys you can sign are super fast and little else

nothing is better than the 6-9 striker in the mid-high 90s in speed

Yeah, I'm noticing that. I have an English GK that's 18 with 91-94 potential ( ), he's been at 68 (with decent PT) for the last 2 years.

I find that the truly fast players say in their "top skills" that they have sprint speed. Best all-around player I have ever gotten was a CAM from Germany. He had sprint speed, acceleration, FK Acc., Dribbling, and Passing as his top 5. By the time he was 20 he was an 86 OVR with 94 speed, and was one of the best FK takers in the world. He got complete midfielder, speedster, tactician,FK Beast (whatever it actually is called), and acrobat (5* skill moves). So really it's kind of a crap shoot. I've found since the original updates scouting was tuned back and ridiculously fast and skilled players are harder to find.

I had one of those, so much fun. And it was when I was playing with Fleetwood Town. He scored like 27 goals in the 2nd Division when he was 17. He was a speedster and aerial threat.

I play on the highest difficulty with money given to you

Personally I like the scouting and youth squad because I have three double 5* scouts so the talent I bring in is top notch.

I generally stay away from buying players unless its a big splash guy, i.e. I just bought Mario Gotze. By doing it this way you save your money for those type of players but also it forces you to use those youth players you aquired which only get better by playing the games, which I do play every match and never sim. After get playing time you can tell which ones you like and which ones to get rid of ... keep the best & sell off the others to increase your coffers. If you ever need an impact guy you go get whoever you want.

But as I said you got to play these guys in development if you want them to progress. So I always use them against the bottom five in the league and almost all minor cup fixtures both at home & abroad.

There's usually some good young talent on the free agent market.

I signed a mid 70s CAM with 5 star skills who is only 18yrs old.

I used to do this but got tired of Abromavich firing me after a string of poor performances and/or finishing in 2nd instead of 1st by GD. Sound familiar?

But really, I fired up an MM one time and was 7 pts out of 1st with 15 games left ( Including games against the 2 teams in front of me) and they sacked me.

Granted I had lost out of Champions League (drew Real in the round of 16), FA, and Capital One Cup. But still...

Seriously, the worst was when I was quite a ways in and had a pipeline of amazing youth and all the sudden boom. Fired. Pissed me off...
