A couple of good friends of mine are getting married next weekend and they have asked me to be their wedding DJ. I have the equipment and stuff, but I'm most definitely not a professional. It should be a pretty casual environment (clearly, if they are asking a buddy to be the DJ). But, I thought I'd throw this open to the board...

Playlist suggestions? Especially "floor movers"? They are big fans of 80s music, and I plan on sticking pretty close to that, but what songs would you like to hear a wedding?

There are 1000s of songs from the 80s, and I could sit here and name songs for hours.

Are they into 80s Rock, New Wave, Hip Hop, Polka?

Well, I've got 1000s of songs. I'm trying to narrow, not expand. I was asking if you had a favorite.

I'm primarily going to play New Wave.

I think I'll avoid "Love Stinks" at a wedding, even though I do love the J Giles Band. Might do Land of a 1000 Dances or Centerfold.

Yeah, trying to decide on which Joel is a tough one. I'm thinking to use him for a slow dance.

These 3 would be fine for when people are first arriving at the reception and are getting their food and drinks:
Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams
The Human League - Don't You Want Me
Simple Minds - Don't You Forget About Me

These two would be good mixed in for post dinner and several drinks into the night.
David Bowie - Let's Dance
Dead Or Alive - You Spin Me

eta: looking at that link, I'd add the following for slow and fast dance songs:
All Night Long -Lionel Ritchie
Billie Jean-Michael
Bust a Move-Young MC
Call Me
Celebration
Centerfold
Come on Eileen
Don't stop believin
Electric slide
endless love
fight for your right
footloose
girls just wanna have fun-good bridesmaids dance
I wanna dance with somebody
I want to know what love is
I'm coming out
Into the groove
It takes two
jessie's girl
livin on a prayer
mony mony
push it
sexual healing
take my breath away
the lady in red
thriller
wake me up before you gogo
walk like an egyptian
wild thing

It Takes Two will set it off every time!

Old Michael Jackson as well - unless this is a KKK wedding party.

Oh, It Takes Two was already on the list. No chance it does not get played. Who doesn't like that song?
