Play together? Can someone find a statistic on how often they are on the court together? Just curious of there is something to this

Well they're both mainly two guards so it would make sense that Rivers is Gordon's back up. They played together the other night against the pistons though.

there are 2-man statistics at basketball reference:

and other unit stats at 82 games:

That pairing doesn't show up as common.

That's what I thought. Is it just because Monty believes they don't play well together?

I think Rivers got his run of substantial minutes at SG when Gordon was out, which pushes his time with EJ down the list.

Then, he's playing instead of Gordon on the back-to-backs. Then, he gets minutes at backup point, and Gordon tends to run with the starters.

Seems like circumstances more than some issue with fit.

The party line is that Gordon is a key part of our team (the hobblestone?!) and Rivers is the PG of the future . . . so they better play well together in time.

I think it has more to do with pairing Gordon and Vasquez as a unit during Gordon's minutes.

Is that really the party line? I would think that's adjusted to "a PG in the future."

That's straight from Monty's mouth.

What else is he supposed to say?

This is what I was thinking and why I wanted to ask to see if there was anything to it

I wasn't being serious. I think Monty realizes that Rivers is not ready to be a starting PG right now, so he has to develop his units as they are going to be playing together for the near future. Now, what he says is going to be tilted. Like you said, the party line.
