What essential start up equipment is needed for turkey hunting?

My family and I have a lease with a crap load of turkeys. Nobody on the lease turkey hunts so I'm thinking about giving it a go. I've hunted all my life but never for turkeys so what are the chances I will succeed in killing one with the proper equipment?

All the equipment you need is a shotgun, full body camo and a simple turkey call. This plus a bit of patience tempered by a degree of insanity and you'll be chasing gobblers with the best of them...

Turkeys are much more of a challenge than deer or any other game around here IMO . Snake boots , a vest , decoy , couple of good slate calls , diaphragm calls , mask , gloves , good choke , box call . A blind would be nice but not a necessity by any means . A crow call , peacock call , or owl call .

Shotgun with a full choke, Federal Turkey Loads, Box Call, Full cammo including gloves and face mask, crow call, owl call....turkeys.
If you have turkeys you are in business. Just remember set up as close as you can. Don't call too much. Yelps and Clucks. Also, just imitate the turkey hens you hear.

I'm in same position. I have plenty of turkeys that get little pressure, but I've never hunted them before.
I tried once last year solo with no luck.
Talking with a cousin now that has more experience. Plan to go with him to scout the area this weekend and then try to get a few hunts in.
As for equipment, a locator call (crow or owl) a turkey call you are competent with - I'm fairly decent with a box or slate, cant use a mouth call yet.
and then cammo and gun with proper shot and choke.
A seat pad or stool is helpful.
Decoys are legal in AL but ive never tried to use them.

I already have an 360 blind set up for bow hunting. I counted 54 turkeys last time I hunted it in dec. Its on an hardwood break and they roost about 400 yards away. I may just go sit in it and try my luck at calling got to learn somehow.

dont forget the alcohol for after the kill.
just find out where they are roosting and go in early. If you can sit still then you can kill a turkey. You can even shoot them out of the tree, just dont shot the hens.

Please be careful with this, in most States shooting turkeys off the roost is illegal...

Roost shooting is frowned upon everywhere in my experience; however, you'd be surprised how many States dont explicity say that it's illegal. Missouri comes to mind as one that doesnt spell it out and thus implies that limb lifting is legal.

I thought the same until about 2010 when I was at a Convention.
I've actually shot an Ocellated Turkey off the roost in Mexico. Its completely legal there and the local subsistence hunters do it all the time. It was actually one of the most memorable turkey hunts of my life. The Ocellated turkeys dont roost in groups as they do here. Getting close without spooking the bird and then picking a single turkey out of the jungle canopy in the dark is pretty damn difficult. When turkeys sleep the head and tail hang below the limb almost as if you hung a horseshoe over a limb. That stuck with me, for some reason I wasn't expecting them to sleep in such a position. Anyhow, suffice to say that turkey had a rude awakening...

I didn't know it was illegal, nor can I find anything saying it is.
As far as unethical...You try to sneak up on a fricking turkey.
