Need Suggestions on a Video Converter

Hey friends! So i just bought FRAPS and want to record some gaming I do, nothin serious just for fun to throw em up on youtube or something. I figured out FRAPS records without any kind of compression at all and the files are HUGE.
Anyways I went looking for some free video converters and found Miro. Looked legit so I downloaded it and it worked but the sound is completely fricked. It's fine on the FRAPS recording but after converting it in Miro it sounds horrible.
So I need suggestions from y'all that know a lot more than me about this. What are your suggestions for a free video converter that won't frick the sound up? Or is Miro a good one and I'm just doing it wrong? I'll be gone most of the day so any info you guys have would be greatly appreciated. I will check back tonight.
Edit: I was converting from .avi to .mp4

You actually paid for Fraps? If you were a pirate that lived by the bay you could have grabbed it for free.
You can also find a copy of Sony Vegas there. It's a movie editor but it will save in whatever format you want.
.wmv is a better format for uploading than .mp4
