Per the Admins, the OB needs to do better with thread titles.

There was a discussion on here last night with one of the admins about the threads being anchored and the feeling of the OB that is being picked on more so than in the past. I think all to often we feel more comfortably on this board than some of the others, but we really need to ask ourselves (prior to starting it) if the thread is reverent to the outdoors.

They also want to see a reduction in the number of "I found ammo at _____", "look at my new gun" type of threads buy might be feasible to add them to an IM thread (see below.)

It was brought to our attention that thread titles were a problem and need to be cleaned up. What used to fly before might not fly now. Here are the guidelines for thread titles LINK

quote:

Important: Don't force readers to have to click the thread to know what it is about.

Here are some of the main reasons for anchored threads:

1. The subject of the thread is too short and not descriptive enough. We often see users just put one word or sometimes two words. Even 3-4 words can be too short. These are immediately anchored. Again, be descriptive. The subject should contain the point of your thread.

2. The subject of the thread is cut off. This is a problem that has been popping up a lot lately. A user will post a subject such as:

"The key to winning the game is..."

or

"I am about to get torn to shreds but I think that"

For whatever reasons, the user cut the subject off and is requiring that the reader click on the thread to find out what the point of the thread is. We would rather the main idea of the thread to be inside the subject.

3. THE SUBJECT OR POST IS IN ALL CAPS. These are immediately anchored. All caps are hard to read and comes across as shouting.

4. There is already a thread on the info that you are posting. This is self-explanatory. We don't need 10 threads on the board announcing what Robert Smith just said about LSU. We usually keep the thread with the best subject, and anchor/delete the repeat threads.

5. The topic has been beaten to death. Sometimes, topics have run their course and need to just fade away.

6. A thread has gone off topic. If the replies inside a thread have nothing to do with the main idea in the subject, we often anchor.

Exception to these rules: Good morning threads, Lunch Threads, Late Night Snack Threads and approved IM thread.

Hopefully, we can start improving the readability of TD.com by following the guidelines inside this thread.

Currently IM threads or threads talking about random stuff are not allowed on the OB. We discussed last night keeping all ammo deals in the same thread for the day, then transition this to a IM food drinking thread for the evening. This has yet to be approved by Chicken, but got a "give it a try" and see what happends.

Recap:

It is time that we police ourselves better or someone else will do it for us...

The OB's days are numbered.

If 10 people buy a new gun all on the same day and want to show it off whats the big deal. This is one of the reasons this board was started.

Gun threads are out of control? This is the OUTDOOR BOARD. If we don't talk about guns, rods, reels, beer, camp fires, etc., what are we going to talk about here? We might as well go to the rant where the teens race to reply "tl;dr" on every thread and think that's cool.

Exactly. Is it safe to say the mods are not outdoorsmen and perhaps think all the gun threads are duplicates of each other?
