| H.R. 808, The Federal Department of Peacebuilding (Posted on 2/26/13 at 1:06 pm)
Hard to believe we are paying these folks to not do their jobs and instead come up with this stuff. The Hill.com
quote:
House Democrats led by Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) have introduced legislation that would create a federal Department of Peacebuilding, which would be tasked with everything from finding ways to scale back U.S. military actions to ending bullying at schools. Under her bill, H.R. 808, the new department would be led by a Cabinet-level Secretary of Peacebuilding, who would have a seat on the National Security Council. The department would be "dedicated to peacebuilding, peacemaking, and the study and promotion of conditions conducive to both domestic and international peace and a culture of peace."
quote:
To help achieve these goals, the bill would have the department create a "peace academy," modeled on the U.S. military service academies. The secretary would also create "Peace Days," and would encourage people to "observe and celebrate the blessings of peace and endeavor to create peace on Peace Days." The bill does not appropriate a specific amount of money to create the new department but says "such sums as may be necessary" are authorized.
From the bill:
quote:
Gun violence continues to be a public health epidemic in the United States and globally. Every year 300,000 people are killed by gun violence around the world. In the United States, 100,000 people are shot each year in murders, assaults, suicides and suicide attempts, accidents, and police actions. Over 30,000 people die each year of gunshot wounds, 12,000 of whom are murdered. Every day, 50 children are shot, and 8 of those children die. We must address the multiple causes of this public health epidemic by reinstating the ban on assault weapons, prohibiting high-capacity magazines, improving mental health services, supporting comprehensive violence prevention efforts, establishing a Federal gun buy-back program, and enforcing existing laws by investing in our law enforcement agencies to help get guns off the streets.

Where do they get these ideas? 2nd graders? Seriously...that sounds like an idea I would've had in the 2nd grade.

Well out of the millions of children aborted, nearly 100% die.
