That is true for me.

Once upon a time, I was very anti-gay.

He evolved!

Seriously though. The government is annoying to deal with. I'm trying to arrange getting a marriage license from out-of-state right now and it blows. Wish I didn't have to even tell them I'm getting married.

The republicans are holding themselves back. The fricking religious right has allowed the dems to come into this much control.

I'm a Christian and I'm against gay marriage, but at the same time I recognize the state shouldn't be and the state shouldn't legislate sin. (i.e. banning gay marriage)

While it is fun to talk about things like this, the fact is that both parties have pockets of members who are in the minority of their party and support policies that are part of the platform of the opposing party. One could certainly find 75 Democrats nationwide who are pro-life, opposed to gun control, or opposed to tax increases on the wealthy. No doubt one could find 75 Republicans who support the Affordable Care Act, are pro-choice on abortion, etc.

Nothing to see here... move along, move along.

re: 75 prominent Republicans sign amicus brief in support of gay marriage

Civil 'marriage', has mostly become a matter of economic policy; who gets what, how much. What ain't, now days.

And re marriage in a spiritual (religious) sense...pledges to God to hang in a marriage and work through good and bad "til death do us part"...are no better than the will of the individuals making that pledge. A lot ought to just save their breath.

And what the hell do natural 'sexual' urges have to do with taking that pledge and standing by it anyway; both heteros and homos are going to have natural urges to act in ways that undermine any pledge to stay in a single relationship for life. From a spiritual pov...both are in the same boat already.

I imagine that the cultural insitution of 'marriage' was established to promote the survial and prosperity of humanity. Stable family...stable collective. But since 'government' now has become an option as a de facto family...marriage no longer is needed in a survival sense. More fun to go rogue, run wild like the movie stars.

The potential problem arises when complex government support mechanisms (psychological and logistical basics)...goes south. Then we'll really find out just whether the instititution of marriage should have been kept in the 'holy union' paradigm.

Time will tell. Always does. Supreme Court, Congress, Republicans, Gays, Evangelicals and Bill Maher nws.

Forward.
