If you are a youngster you may not have heard the term. It was a commercial in the 70's that had Elle Fitzgerald's amplified voice breaking a wine glass. The hook was if it was her live voice or her voice recorded on Memorex cassette tape?

With all the advancement in artificial lures to make them more life like, are you fishing lures more now than you used to? Do any of you use live bait exclusively?

I'll use live bait from time to time, such as billfish on rip eating chicks, I feed them a chick. Finicky 10# mangroves in clear water, and if you'll have women and children on the boat that can't fish or grown men and its their first fishing trip.

I use live bait if I can catch it or conveniently get to the boat to buy some. I use artificial most of the year, but holy shite, it's crazy when you get on the live bite on the islands in the summer. I'm sure someone will come in here and call me out saying I'm "not a real fisherman" blah blah blah, but with gas prices how they are, I'll do whatever it takes to get fish in the boat without having to run around bay hopping all weekend.

I use live bait for big specks in the ship shoal area from mid july to mid august.

I'd much rather use artificial, but I'm not above hooking up some stink crickets when that's what the fish are taking.

I've had on more than one occasion this happen to me. I'd be at one of the SS or EI rigs catching trout every throw on artificials and have a boat from Cocodrie area pull up around the corner with live bait and shut us down completely. Damnedest thing I've ever seen.

We get it during the summer months when we can, if you're spending all that money on gas, might as well spend a little more and be prepared if that's all they want.
We're quick to go to plastic when we get 'em a frenzy though.

If I'm passing the Tracy Macie early enough at rock island or Caillou Boca, then I'm usually stopping depending on the number of boats. I like to keep my options open.

Exactly. It's more enjoyable for guests who want to catch 100+ trout and people like my mom who thinks bream fishing is the best thing on earth.

Some of the biggest specks I've caught in the last several years have been with croakers.

Croakers for big trout in the ship shoal area. Shrimp for quantity.

Croakers on the bottom in early July in SS and about half way down in August are money.

Trout will strike a croaker even when its not hungry because croakers eat trout eggs and they are butthurt about it.

I might just look at my boat and think about it for a while.

I have not wet a line since we burnt a piston on the motor in November.

I fish mostly two things. Bomber Long A. The only time I switch off is if it is a slow, slow day. The wife likes to have live bait so I will catch some pogeys and shrimp in the lights off the dock. if that is a bust sometimes she makes me run up to Leeville to get bait. She does like gulp and will go without bait if we are running late and she has gulp.

I'll use live bait if I have others on the boat that want to, I really like catching them on artificial though (inshore)

We have a camper down at Bobby Lynn's South. It is a little south of Chevron Air operations on Bayou Lafouche.
