Are recruiting leaks coming from people at LSU?

It seems like it is a really big deal for these kids to commit on their own terms and when there are leaks, it speaks to a lack of trust between the recruit and the staff. But, reporters and insiders want to have the scoop, so they go after contacts to be the first to break the story. We heard about the RSJ thing. Is this hurting us with other recruits too?

It's starting to really piss me off when these journalists keep fu***** up

No this was just poor journalistic integrity by Nola.com and Jimmy Smith for this blunder this afternoon.

Everyone should call him out on twitter

Nola.com keeps talking about how great their info is and how its all free and nobody should use paysites when they have their stuff for free. Well thats all and good until you leak a story that hasnt happened yet to cause doubt in a recruiting situation. Paysites 99% of the time dont leak stories publicly until the kid says its ok and this is why Paysites are better than the FREE NOLA.com.

My own misses have come from paysites (not LSU)...it happens.

I am unaware of any kid who ever stated that he was ready to commit to LSU - just to decide to go to a different school instead because of some reported "leak".

You dont see Paysites write articles then publish them on their websites until they are for sure it happened.
Sure info is speculated for the members but nothing goes official till it is so. Nola.com went official on somthing that was not just so they could be the first to report it. THats just bad journalism.

Name a paysite that hasn't done the same thing. And I'm talking about the LSU-specific sites, not the networks in general.
Regardless of your answer, I'll say: "You are wrong." Unless your answer is "They all do it."
I think at the end of the day, it's easy to see what happened here. Jimmy was at an event. Kid told him he was going to do something (apparent from the quotes). Somebody LSU related confirmed to him that it had been done this morning. Based on what the kid told him yesterday and what he was told today, Jimmy reported it.
Was Jimmy the only local recruiting guy at the Florida 7-on-7 tournament? If so, I'd say that's probably the only reason he's the only one reporting it like he did. The others are "protected" by not being there and hearing what the kid said there.
Sounds to me like the kid just has to have an aternoon pow-wow with mom and his coach before he makes it official.

So.. If we know that a prize recruit is about to announce for rival team, one should leak the info to piss off the recruit. Is this a leak aimed to change the commitment or loose lips?
No point fretting what you don't control?

That comes from when they speculate. One thing I haven't seen them do is go public early when the recruit asked them to wait. Not saying that's what happened here, but it's happened with guys like Gino and Jimmy Details before.

For my money, I'm going to trust a proven newspaper like the TP over some website any day. The idea that the pay sites are a beacon of journalistic integrity is absolutely laughable. I'm not up to speed on what all is going on in this situation (I'm a newbie here and am really just getting my feet wet), but as a general rule I'll take a media outlet with several Pulitzer Prizes over any recruiting pay site. But that's just me.

Well your Pulitzer Prize Winner TP just screwed the pooch with a jump the gun article about an event that hasnt taken place yet. BUt you keep on believing everything the newspaper prints.

Yeah usually pay sites dont list the kid as a commit until the player makes it public.
Not that they dont speculate and give odds, they just dont go public with it to not piss off the kids or the contacts from the LSU side.
You piss the kids off, then try and get them on the phone and they just wont answer or give you the interview.

It's not about the publisher, it's about the writer/reporter. The people at nola.com are highly unprofessional at best. Reporting on recruiting is still a new phenomenon that people are adjusting to. I'm not sure I'd take my queue's on who to trust from an organization as behind the times as a physical newspaper on a topic that is as constantly evolving as this is.
