If LSU were to make the run through the conference tourney,

we then would have 20+ wins,

a hot streak to close the season,

and a legit big-time player (O'Bryant is 6'8" and has a bunch of double-doubles).

Doesn't factor in at all.

This is where RPI comes in. And ours sucks.

ETA: in other words, we could do all that work to get in the dance, and our RPI would still bite us on the seeding. I bet we would be a 13.

I still can't believe we had the 8 seed in 2009. We should have at least been #6.

Probably right, the RPI would kill us. But my point about O'Bryant is that he isn't a glorified 6'4" swingman who'd get butchered against major teams, he's a legit 6'8", and you could reasonably project that he'd get his numbers against anyone.
If you have a couple of similar teams you're trying to rate, O'Bryant might give us an edge.

What? Didn't you read that other thread? JOB is only 6'4" because Big Tuba is just 6'8". Some guy who knows a guy who knew a guy whose third cousin slept with his half sisters step dad or something.

Is there any way we get to the tourney without winning the SEC tournament?

Let's say we finish 19-10 and then make it to the final.

#14 seed maybe?

Very unlikely.

Zero chance. Our rpi is awful.

Seton Hall is looking less and less impressive.

Too bad we couldn't steal that one at UK.

IMO winning the SEC is our only chance, even then we still may not go.

... if you win the conference you get an automatic bid to the tourney

We proved we can beat anyone in the SEC on Saturday. I think Florida will win a game and cash in their chips. LSU vs "The Field excluding Florida" would probably pull in 10:1 odds right now, but we're playing great ball and I think we "could" pull it off.

On the flip side, LSU hasn't won the SEC Tournament since 1981 and hasn't been to the Championship since 1993. History isn't on our side.

Irrelevant. The committee doesn't care what players you have.

Not sure why you think this. Yes, we're playing much better than earlier in the year, but it's a far cry from "great ball." CJJ is getting the most out of this team, but every game is a struggle to win.

Playing great ball is all relative, really. I believe we're playing good enough to run the tables in the SEC Tournament.

It would be a reach, a real reach...but, the best I could see is that we get into an 11/12-seed play in game...since the tourney has gotten so strange lately and has stuff like that.
