I get that there are legitimate criticisms of the president. I share many of them. In a futile attempt to make this thread not a huge flame fest and a conservative circle jerk, I'll list the things I disagree with him on:
Drone strikes
Deficit spending
Gay marriage (I think everyone should get a contract, not tax benefits, gay and straight alike)
Leaving Guantanamo Bay open
Support of Israel regardless of the views of the rest of the world, or their rightness
Not ending the war in Afghanistan immediately
So now that that's out of the way... Barack Obama is a liberal. He's not as liberal as other political figures. He's not as unlikeable as other liberal figures. He is, however, black. So is his wife.
It's the hate for Michelle Obama that convinces me that there is, at a minimum, latent racism influencing the hate of Barack Obama. Every First Lady has a pet program. Every First Lady has photo ops.
A short example is that Laura Bush was all about libraries. They're federally funded, they're a government institution, and she wanted them promoted. That never attracted much attention from conservatives, or liberals, for that matter. Libraries are a thing we can all generally see as positive (whether we think they should be publicly or privately funded). The same can, and does, apply to Michelle Obama's obesity work. She advocates for community gardens, plants them and pushes for healthy living. Yes, she appears on television and in pop culture. It's what people want. In an odd way, it's the free market working. It's an uneducated electorate wanting style.
Still, she's hated more than any first lady I can remember. The only difference is her race.
So frick you guys.

She was never proud to be an American before her husbands run for POTUS

I agree that some probably stems from racism, but she is not a feminine woman. Michelle Obama is an awkward First Lady and it's not because she is black but because she is not eloquent with her words or body language.

which first lady was caught in a compromising position, or was engaged in an extreme political statement.....basically which one hasn't acted like a lady?

Ron Paul has probably never been proud of his country. Why no extreme hate for him? He was a member of Congress. He actually had power. The First Lady just pushes for things.

They hated Hillary too. Is there a racial element for some people? Sure. I think many hate Obama because he's a democrat in the white house, and their hate extends to her.

You're acting like a moron, Roger. I spent half of the OP talking about things that I dislike about Barack Obama. You're acting as if I think the only thing people dislike him for is his race.

Well stated. But I also think FightingTiger's point was that some people on opposite side of Democrats won't admit that racial element on their side, even if it's a minority.
