It seems that the majority of this board wants an OLB, but I still say a pot belly first. I've always admitted to being a dummass on this board, but this one is obvious. LOS first. Keep in mind that we have not heard a peep from Aldon Smith since Justin Smith got hurt. Am I wrong again?

Given that Justin Smith is a 3-4 DE, yes.

Also, what NT in the draft is worth the #15 pick?

There are 3-4 OLBs in the draft who are worth the #15 pick.

That's why I said LOS, because I know that Justin is a DE. But, w/o the guys up front, would it matter how talented our new shiney toy is at OLB? We've seen that from the Saints for years. No DL play, everyone sux because of it.

I hear you there.. If there is no push from the middle then the QB can just step up in the pocket and deliver.

But as they said, not much top tier talent at NT. I don't mind Jenkins from UGA, just not at #15. and I like to think of Ohio St. as Bust U (Hankins)

There isn't a 34 DT worth it at pick 15. When you start reaching, you start ending up with Tyson Jacksons at waaaaaaay too much money.

Bc I'm a huge fan of OLB in the first and someone like Gaethers in the third. I think Bunkley is our middle man right now but Gaethers would be a great spell guy or hell, he might even be better.
You don't get a pass rusher in the third round that's worth anything but you could still get a NT who does

Jordan, Bunckley & Hicks on the DL > Lofton, Vilma, Chamberlain & Wilson at LB

We need to put pressure on the QB. Plain and simple, that's been our weakness for a few years now. Draft Jordan or Mingo to make a Demarcus Ware impact and our defense does something we couldn't do before and improves dramatically. Plus, as said earlier, there isn't a NT or DE worth the #15 pick.

Kool. Like I said, I'm no jeenyus w/ this stuff. But, if there was a top 15 34 DT, would you guys choose that over OLB considering we have Galette and Wilson possibly at OLB and Bunkley at DT?

The only guy that would be worth a 15 would be Star Lotulelei and he'll be gone by 15. I'd personally rather see Geathers in the 3rd than either Hankins or Jenkins at 15.

The bust to star ratio of DT's (especially NT where there is no spotlight)in the first just seems really high. I think that the DT position in the NFL is so much about effort and desire, that it's never a good idea to draft high. Those are two things you can't measure at the combine. Better to wait and get a guy on his second contract IMO.

Pressure makes everything better. Getting pressure makes our secondary look better. The easiest and quickest way to improve our defense is to get pressure on the QB. I'd rather have a serviceable NT with two OLB's that live in the backfield.

we've had some threads discussing the NT situation at length.

My summary is that Bunkley should be pegged there even though hasn't been a 3-4 NT and doesn't fit the mold prototypically.

As far as draft, I'd rank'em sumpin like-

Lotulelei- he would be the no way you can pass on NT. He should be Top 5, Top 10 minimum. They would pounce on him but I'd count him less than 5% possibly on the board

Hankins is the one if available they could or could not take depending on who's available. They're gonna take the highest rated defender. I could see a take or pass on him even with a Jordan or Mingo available.

Jenkins in my next rated NT but is a reach at #15. I only see him if they stretched for need. If they traded back he could then be a prime candidate.

We really dunno how they rate the NT need factor. They go BPA but need is still a factor in the equation.

I think in the mock compilation thread was some discussion about CB. That too is not out of the realm of possibility. I could see Milliner as the BPA in some draft scenarios as well.

or if we don't see the value at 15 for NT, maybe fall back a handful of spots and go after a jesse williams or a john jenkins or whomever.

They kind of have him pegged as an outside bookend in a 3-4 system so i just don't see that unless they plan on keeping hicks inside with bunkley.... who knows... hicks is such a wild card on the line.

ditto on Floyd. If we were 4-3ing it he would definitely be in the conversation. Doubt any chance now. Looks like a Carolina, if not before, pick to me.

I think he would be a perfect fit for the five technique in the 3-4 but that is just my opinion. Like others have said, Hicks is kind of a wild card and so is Bunkley I guess. They could be in the mix for the nose tackle spot... nobody really knows.

but it looks like Floyd's stock is only going to keep going up at this point. He'll probably be gone by the time we pick.

But hey, look on the bright side..it looks like they want to bring Will Smith back on a restructured deal
