He's the perfect candidate of the teachers' unions, "tax the productive" economic leftists, and the generation government housing and welfare recipients.

Who else are the Dems thinking about running? Would Mitch make a move? When is Karen Carter Peterson gonna make the jump to the big leagues?

Being the Obama Campaign State Coordinator would probably sink her pretty fast in a state-wide race. Best she can hope for is 2nd District Congressman.

We will see. There are numerous big time Republicans running. If Mitch jumped in, he would clear the Democrat field immediately. Should be an exciting race for a change.

it'll be a long time before this state gives a democrat a chance it's really an exercise in futility for a dem to run for a statewide position i think even ole mary's days may be numbered if the R'S can coalesce around one challenger

He is a West Point graduate and comes from a political family. His bother claims to be a republican and is sheriff in Tangipahoa Parish (parish wide it politically better to be a republican but in John Bel's district you need to be a democrat---both are rather politically expedient with their political party affiliation. His daddy was sheriff years ago. Lawyers or politicians is the resume of the family.

Do NOT underestimate his chances. If he is the only democrat (particular if no black democrats run) he might have a really good chance.

Yeah, good chance to get into the run-off. That's where his journey will end, though, unless the LA GOP finds a way to royally screw up the 2015 Election.

Yeah, no chance of that! But your point is well taken; we should not overestimate his chances either.

Unless that is just a bad photo, he looks mildly retarded - not in a bad way, more of a sling blade way...don't see him competiting in a state wide race.

I know a good bit about him. He may have to be a Democrat to be elected in his district, but he's hardly a DINO. He's EWE without the charisma or brains.

Is he related to EWE? Is he a nephew or cousin?

I've watched JB Edwards quite a few times on the House floor. Lacking charisma? Yes. Lacking brains? I don't think so. In fact, he's probably the sharpest leader the LA Dems have right now in the Legislature. That may not be saying much when you've got useless idiots like Barbara Norton and Sam Jones in the group, but he's probably the best at articulating the leftist views of the state party leadership.

You're right that he's one of the smarter Democrats in the legislature but most of Louisiana's House and Senate Democrats are tremendously stupid. It's pretty fascinating to see up close.
