Basketball Ideas

Bottom line, I think LSU got the right man for the job and LSU is on the right track in basketball.
Two ideas that were discussed on Bill King radio this morning that really intrigued me were these:
Rick Stansbury (former State coach) said getting the student body involved is key to momentum and home game atmosphere. He said every fall after 2-a-days he invited students who were fans of basketball (500 or so) to his home for a gathering where the players served the buffet line and then mingled with the student body. Excellent idea in my opinion, even if it had to be modified to work for LSU.
Another sports reporter from ESPN on the same show was commenting on the insane atmosphere in the gym at East Lansing (Sparty vs Hoosiers) last night. He said at Mich State, the school has sacrificed a little money to put the students wrapped around the entire floor and put the alumni behind them. This, in my opinion is another fantastic idea. I have seen them 3 times on TV and it's phenomenal to see the energy of the students in a gym.
I wonder if LSU and Jones could use these ideas in some form?

I agree with both of those ideas..definitely something to think about. I also watched the Hoosiers/Spartans game last night and was jealous of their atmosphere. However, I believe in the upcoming years, our basketball program will be something special. Johnny Jones is the man

It would be horrendous to stick the ss anywhere but where it is. It's small and easy to hide right now. It was embarrassing when it was mid court and 8 students would be there.
If it ever goes back to center court take the.stupid standing plates away and seat it up and go directly to top where it use to be. Even if we are good most students are too cool these days to be in the cut off section. Force them to all sit together

this +10000000, little hipster douches.
I do have respect for the ginger at the bottom of the SS. Dude is always there.

Why all the hate for the students? Have ya'll ever been students? They bring energy to football. They could do the same for basketball if they felt connected to the team. I wonder what Jones and Alleva would say?

I see the too cool post a lot. Could it possibly be that as a student I actually want to see what's happening and you can't see a damn thing from the bottom section right behind the goal? Nah that couldn't be the reason. Who wants to watch the game from a good seat?
Solution: if you dont want students including myself to sit in the higher area of the student section then don't put us right behind the goal. I'm not saying half court but the current view is ridiculous.

Imagine how shitty the PMAC would look without students occupying those seats. MSU knows they have student "buy in" and will fill those seats with an amped and crazy student body.
The apathy from the students regarding hoops is pathetic. watch any other game on tv. our student section is beyond sub standard.

I agree, it would look crappy. But the apathy has something to do with the team's performance prior to Jones' arrival. Trent Johnson did not help the matter. I think there could be a modification of what Mich St does. There could be a lottery for limited courtside seats each game until interest expanded. There could be Paw Points or Football seating priority point rewards for students that attended basketball and women's events. There are lots of ways to market a product and get people to buy in, the most important of which is to put a good product out on the court. Jones is making headway there.
